Friends and I were staying in a cabin in Cuchara and discovered this bakery in nearby La Veta. Everything was delicious that we tried. One day we stopped for cinnamon rolls (flavorful with cinnamon icing) and coffee. Next we had lunch sandwiches which were all served on perfect baguettes (fresh, tender crisp crust). The next time we went was to pick up an apple galette for dessert later. The hours are enviable for a small town bakery, but require planning on the customer’s part. While we were there, they are open Tues, Thurs and Sat, and run out of food daily. Get there early for the best selection! As an added bonus, the people are super friendly and the free WiFi is as good as it gets in the area.

My boyfriend and I stayed in La Veta for 4 days and went to Ryus twice. Each time we got a nice selection of pastries and desserts. The chocolate croissants are amazing! My boyfriend loved the cinnamon rolls, and the fruit and cheese danishes were awesome. Even the sugar cookies (shaped like polar bears) were great! I only wish they would have been open all 4 days we were there. Whenever we come back to this small town, Ryus will definitely be a stop!

The best little bakery in Huerfano County! La Veta is very blessed to have this little gem in a small S. Colorado community. They catered my surprise 60th birthday and did a spectacular job! Everything they make is Mmm Mmm good!

My best friend and I had lunch to go from Ryus Ave Bakery on our little trip to La Veta. And we enjoyed every single bite! We both had the Ryus Ave Special sandwich, but I substituted my slaw for avocado which was more like guacamole which is even better!! I had some guacamole over flow onto my plate which I had chips to scoop it up with and I was in heaven! Also, we had the Lemon Greek Soup which honestly I wasn't sure about but my taste buds were blown away! My friend and I are from Fort Worth TX and this was our first lil get away together. I was a lil worried about our eating situation since it was a small town and with covid going on. But this was the best lunch I've had in a while. The customer service was very nice and felt like that comfortable feeling of being in a small town. I admire them and their hard work to keep warm delicious food in the belly's of the local people who help support them. Beautiful bakery and town. I hope to get to come back again and will definitely make this the lunch spot.
