Mason's Dumpling Shop - Lakewood

I’ve been getting their “vegan beef buns” for the past couple years, only to find out that the “vegan beef” is in fact not vegan. I came in person and was trying to clarify with the waiter why the same soy meat in the buns is “vegan” while it’s only “vegetarian” in the bowl. The waiter clarified the vegetarian meat has egg and so the buns are not vegan at all. She also clarified that the buns labeled gluten free are not actually gluten free. And that the owner isn’t changing the menu. What a disappointment and worrisome knowing so many people are eating nonvegan food without knowing.

Yes. Eat here. We loved it all. Will be coming back for the vegan bao buns. Must Order the bao buns!!! Updated from previous review on 2025-06-26

So many good vegan options. So flavorful and fresh. Also they are clearly marked as vegan on the menu. The pan-fried vegan dumplings and vegan beef bao are my favorite.

I wish I could leave 5 stars. Loved everything I ordered.

I live within walking distance and placed a pretty big order. They had everything ready within 15 minutes and everything tasted amazing. Everyone was really nice and I kinda wish I had stayed to eat there instead.

After checking in the hotel, we looked for something close with vegan or vegetarian options. Found this shop in walking distance and Waiter was very friendly and quick to come by after our orders or checking in on dishes. We. Got our appetizers and enjoyed it, however the dishes we ordered (vegan chicken/beef rice bowls) were not that great. Rice was good, broccoli was hot and warm on some parts but kinda cool like it wasn't steamed all the way. The vegan food was actually not bad but when we got the edamame, it was just soaked in soy sauce but if it was salted I hardly tasted it. We got vegan or vegetarian dumplings and I thought they were okay but tasted like egg rolls with a bit less flavor inside. Not terrible but wasn't wanting more.

We walked in on September 30th excited to try the new establishment. There were 2 employees that saw us and acted like we weren't there. We understood that it just opened for the day, but we weren't acknowledged and no one else came out to greet us or seat us. After 10-15 minutes, we decided to walk out. Disappointing to say the least.

Great! The pork belly bun was amazing. Every dumpling was great as well, and we explored the menu quite a bit. A nice change of pace.
