This cozy little shack pumps out some of the best Mexican comfort food I've ever had. I'd name my favorite menu item but y'all would keep them sold out if I did.

I need everyone to stop what they’re doing because I had a LIFE-ALTERING food experience at Tacos El Rey in Meeker, Colorado, and I’m genuinely not the same person anymore. This place looks like the cutest little log-cabin, drive-thru-vibe hidden gem with a walk-up window, and the two men working were the NICEST humans alive. Patient, friendly, professional — they watched us struggle to pick a meal and still cheered us on when we said “you know what, let’s just get one of everything.” That alone put them at 5 stars. But the FOOD??? I’m convinced this is where flavor goes when it wants to retire. 🌮 The Quesabirria Tacos The cheese pull was SINFUL. The consomé was tangy, savory, rich — the kind of broth that feels like it’s legally required to fix your entire life. 🍜 The Birria Ramen This bowl hugged my SOUL. Warm, spicy, cozy, perfect umami. If comfort food had a final form, this is it. 🌶 The Chorizo My husband took one bite and immediately went silent because it transported him right back to memaw’s kitchen. You know it’s good when childhood flashbacks start happening. 🌯 The Cali Burrito Huge. Delicious. Fresh homemade guacamole. Perfectly seasoned. A burrito that doubles as emotional support. 🍩 The Stuffed Churros Crunchy on the outside, dulce-de-leche / caramel heaven on the inside. I genuinely saw stars. Since it was cold and windy, we ate in our truck — and honestly it felt like an old-school drive-in movie night with the family. 10/10 ambiance. There’s plenty of parking, an awning for nice-weather days, and that perfect small-town vibe where everything feels welcoming. If you’re anywhere in Northwest Colorado — GO. If you’re not — plan a trip. This is the kind of food you travel for. Tacos El Rey is a MUST.

THE BEST FOOD IN MEEKER. FULL STOP. PACK A BAG AND GO.

Listen. Listen. I am not dramatic (okay, maybe a little), but Tacos El Rey in Meeker, Colorado just changed my life, my husband’s life, and possibly healed three generations of ancestral trauma.

We rolled up thinking we were just getting lunch, and instead we stumbled into the culinary gates of heaven.

THE QUESABIRRIA?
Oh. My. God.
I’m talking cheese pulls that defy physics, meat so tender it falls apart just because you made eye contact with it, and consomé so rich and flavorful I considered writing it into my will. Perfect tang, perfect kick, perfect savory umami balance. You could dunk a shoe in that broth and it would still taste Michelin-star quality.

THE BIRRIA RAMEN?
I was not prepared.
It’s like someone looked at regular ramen and said, “What if we made this insane?” It’s cozy, spicy, savory, slightly tangy, and every bite hits like a hug from someone who knows exactly how stressed you are. I would swim across the ocean for another bowl. I would do paperwork for another bowl. THAT’S how good it is.

THE CHORIZo??
My husband took one bite and immediately went silent — like DEAD silent — because it took him straight back to his memaw’s kitchen. Authentic, perfectly seasoned, just the right crisp. You know the chorizo you eat and you’re like “oh THIS is the real stuff”? Yeah. That.

THE CALI BURRITO?
A brick of happiness.
Huge portion, everything seasoned perfectly, FRESH homemade guac that tasted like someone’s abuela made it with love and maybe a little attitude. It was heavy in the best way, like you know this burrito is about to hold you through your problems.

AND LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THE STUFFED CHURROS.
If you do not order these, you messed up.
Stuffed with a milk-based filling that tastes like dulce de leche got married to caramel during pumpkin spice season. Crunchy, warm, sweet, slightly spiced… absolutely ridiculous. I would fight someone in a Walmart parking lot for these.

Portions? Generous.
Seasoning? Perfect.
Service? Amazing.
Food? Worth buying a plane ticket for. Honestly worth moving here for.

If you’ve been on the fence, let me shove you:
GO TO TACOS EL REY.
Run, drive, crawl, hitchhike, teleport — whatever you have to do.

This place isn’t just good.
This place is a spiritual experience. 🌮🔥

I ordered the California burrito twice both times asking for extra sour cream, The first time wasn’t really enough, but upon explaining this on my second time it was literally perfection! The chef put exactly the right amount of sour cream and was incredibly kind, It was also probably one of the best burritos that I have ever had During my time in Colorado, This store has earned a lifelong customer

Tacos were good. They serve the onion and cilantro on the side. Nice as you can modify to your desire. Service was quick, as it was 3pm and no line. Hot sauce, yummy.

EXCELLENT stop for us on our drive through Meeker while traveling back to Cali. Had a Mexican food craving and this hit the spot and was as good as anything we get at home! Birria tacos were excellent and CA burrito was good...hubby loved the flavor of his carne asada. Friendly staff and great service. Only wish was that there was some outdoor seating to enjoy.

Potatoes, soft & seasoned, Shrimp, YUM, sausage & corn...I literally can't get enough. These 2 Incredibly Talented Brothers and I'm guessing Momma (call me out if I'm wrong) cook with so much LOVE!!! Thank you for saving my life that day, and feeding me the rest. You've made me a very giddy rebel girl today. Thank you & I love you all!!!
