This place is like a warm hug. But not any hug! The kind of hug you got when you were little at the church picnic and some larger old, familial woman would hug you and lay your head down on her bosom. That kinda hug.

Super great food! My husband had one of the burritos and I had the biscuits and gravy. We will definitely stop by again when we're in the area.

Corned beef hash was not as good as portrayed, needed another 5-7min on skillet to be fully cooked and “golden brown”. Honestly pricey for what we got but that may just be the way of things these days…

My husband, son, son’s girlfriend and I stopped for breakfast as we were driving to Golden. My son and I had the Sneffels Skillet which was outstanding. My son’s girlfriend had the build your own omelet and my husband had the Red Mountain Skillet. All were wonderful. We all chose sourdough for our toast which I highly recommend.

Edit: since posting my review, an affiliate of Kate's Place (Paul Choate) has been stalking and harassing me on my personal Facebook account. Get a life dude.

The food is undewhelming and disappointing, the service is rude, new management is incompetent. Spare yourself the trouble and go somewhere else. I recommend The Smokehouse or Tru Grit, both were outstanding.

Hadn't been here in a bit but needed a bite for an unexpected trip into Montrose... I was very disappointed. Orderd corned beef hash bowl scramble thing after asking if they made the corned beef which the answer was yes yet it came uniformly chopped into cubes. Was OK but what ruined the whole meal was the overuse of oil. All I coukd tates was cooking oil. No real color on the potatoes or oinions just a mushy mess of oil on every thing. Eggs were pale and tasteless also. Also not a fan of the glasses and silverware in multiple numbers in a holder on the table. Your silverware sitting open in a metal open weave basket for each and every person before you handling it, sneezing and coughing on it as well as the glasses for water. No thanks. Should have grabbed a pic.

This place is a classic little diner in a tiny mtn town. The service is fantastic the food is even better and the inside outside option is perfect. The eggs Benedict are my favorite!!

I am heartbroken. Kate’s has been our favorite go-to place for ages whenever we come to Ridgway. My husband even asked his dad for a gift certificate to it for his birthday! But somebody broke it. First, it was EMPTY on a Saturday. We’ve always seen it full, no matter time or day. Second, our favorite waitress had decamped. Hmmm. Third, they took the best home fries on the planet and ruined them. New owners? I don’t know but the home fries were covered in this awful spice mixture that was totally unnecessary and, well, awful. Then the veggies in my spinach and mushroom eggs Benedict also had some spicy seasoning. Who does that? Eggs Benedict NEVER has seasoning in it! Ugh. To top it off, the Earl Grey tea was “Earl Grey Black Tea”—some cheap and almost rancid black tea with some bergamot flavoring. It was obvious why a place that for decades had been packed—it was noon on a Saturday we should have had to wait for a table but there were only a few tables of customers—is now practically empty. I have no idea what happened but we are so very sad. They took one of our favorite restaurants and one of the reasons we love to come to Ouray/Ridgway and broke it. It’s very sad. I’m very sad. We won’t be getting food there again. 😩😩😩

Been coming here for over 10 years. Same name but new ownership, and it shows. Quality has diminished, generic jam, $4.50 cup of coffee, skillets are not made with fresh veggies as before, lemon ricotta served without powdered sugar, tuna sandwich was served with wilted something and quality was poor. I guess good things do come to an end, If you keep the name, keep the quality. Thanks for all those great years. New customers will enjoy, but loyal original Kate’s customers know better.

Amazing food and Amazing Service.
As someone with food allergies who stuggles to eat most places, our server was knowledgeable and helpful. She knew ingredients and double checked with cooks and me to make sure all was taken care of. Best Breakfast I have had in quite a long time!
