I was blown away when I walked into the Avon! On the first floor it appears to be an old time bar setting with old time decor. I checked in with the owner over the phone as he had already left for the night. I was instructed on what room I would get and where to find the key. The entire building was decorated old time and our room was the same. A bed, bathroom, no TV but a record player. This place is incredible! I really liked how the guest's just hung out talking & watching TV till time to go to bed. If I'm ever back in this area I WILL be staying here again.

Very very cute place. Super aesthetic and great decor! Makes you feel like you’ve gone back in time!!!! Superb location. We got a queen bed in a smaller room. It was the perfect size for my boyfriend and I. I do have a few pieces of constructive criticism. The bed was insanely squeaky, one small move and it was just sqeakin. Made it kind of annoying to turn from side to side. Also, I made the mistake of putting something under the bed. There was a layer of dust and grime that attached to my luggage. It seems like no one has ever taken a vacuum attachment under the bed, ever! The bathroom was clean and the towels and complimentary soaps were awesome! It would have been nice to have a bench to put clothes and belongings on while showering. I just had to hang articles of clothing on random spots in the bathroom. Lastly, I was woken up at 9am by VERY loud housekeepers. The woman was nice, but her baby was screaming and running around on the squeaky floors. The husband and wife were speaking at super loud volumes. This went on for OVER AN HOUR. I could not sleep in. I could hear them through my noise canceling headphones!!! I’m sorry, but at 9am, people are still trying to sleep. I seriously cannot emphasize enough how LOUD the housekeeping staff and their child was, it was comedic. Please inform your housekeeper that this is a professional establishment and not a place for your kids to run ramped through the halls.

Otherwise, a very unique and beautiful place. I know I have quite a few complaints, but these are easy fixes! I overall LOVED my stay here! :)

Absolutely wonderful. Second time staying because the first time was wonderful. It is my go to place here in Silverton. Cozy beds. Warm. Quiet. Nostalgic. Homey.

If the Weasleys were from old Colorado, this would be their house. It’s like a fraternity house had a baby with a family ski lodge and it grew into a hearty, old, mountain man.

This place is a vibe! To sleep anywhere comfortably other than one’s own bed at 33 weeks pregnant is high praise- my husband, me and my two doggies stayed in the king suite for the weekend and it was great. It was clean and comfortable and I felt like I was transported back in time to somewhere Bob Dylan or Jack Kerouac would live. The Avon overall is a wonderful base camp for adventurers and since it was late summer many through hikers stay in the Avon’s hostel rooms. The location on Blair street is walking distance to anything we needed. We appreciated the clean and comfy accommodations, the welcome from Patrick, the communal areas to lounge in, and loved having our coffee there every morning. It’s historical and, being a Colorado girl from a rural area, having grown up with a step dad and grandpa who were miners in the area and in other places in CO, I just really appreciated all of the cool old mining and ski paraphernalia adorning the place. It’s a creaky old building so I definitely used ear plugs- I brought my own but it looked like they have them there. The music venue/ theater downstairs reminded me of a mine shaft. You can log into Roku in the communal area, explore the book collections on every floor, or the guest suite where we stayed has a record player. Thank you Avon hotel for a super memorable stay during our last CO visit before baby comes!

This place was unique in its history and decor. The owners were conversational and open to telling a little about the history of the place being an old mining town bar and brothel that they rehabbed themselves. The place was dark despite lighting and windows. The rooms, on the third floor, were tight quartered w/ three high stacked bunks for either $49($59 after tax) or $59($69+ after tax) for individual bed rental. Most people seemed to attempt to be quiet and curteous though the old building echoed with creeky floor boards and heavy doors. There were private rooms for well over $100. Shared showers and bathrooms on third floor that were decently kept. So for large groups I'd go with a place like The Triangle Motel.

Loved my stay at the Avon! The hostel rooms are pretty tight (not more than other hostels), but the common spaces are incredible! There are many cozy sitting areas, both inside and outside, and the rustic / wild west decor is really well done, even down to the Clint Eastwood movies playing in the lobby. Having access to a full kitchen was super nice – I ended up cooking two (minimal) meals there. The price is very reasonable to boot. Only thing that could improve this place is if the soda dispenser at the bar worked. I want to come to Silverton just to stay here again!

Cool place overall and would otherwise give 5 stars but would look for another place next time due to noise. We stayed on the Fire suite and it was fun and comfortable. Large communal kitchen. Lots of hangout spaces. Would not recommend staying in the Fire room or perhaps any of third floor if you're looking to sleep in or want to rest during the day. The laundry is right next door and housekeeping largely takes over that side of the floor and were animated in their conversations which carry throughout the floor/into our room. One of their young kids was hanging out and contributed to the noise with his running around. He was a cute kid and just being a toddler but still noisy.

The hotel is so unique and a fun place to stay. The vintage decor creates an amazing atmosphere while the amenities are modern and comfortable. The hotel is very dog friendly, which is extremely important to us since we travel everywhere with our dog. The owner is very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend staying here if you’re visiting Silverton.

Old, yet modern, hostel living. Shared bathroom, shared sleeping rooms.

The Avon is probably my favorite place to stay in Colorado. Beautiful rustic but clean atmosphere and fun laissez-faire spirit that makes for a relaxing experience. Thanks Dan and Pat!

I was a bit skeptical when we arrived because there was no other cars and we thought it was closed. After the check in, the nice gentleman showed us around and we were in love with so much history. They managed to keep it as original as possible. There’s nothing we needed that wasn’t provided. We will definitely be back and stay here. The beds are by far more comfortable than many other hotels we’ve stayed during our trip.

One of the Most Memorable Stays I’ve Had…A Hidden Gem in Silverton

The Avon Hotel on 10th Street is truly one of the most beautiful and interesting places I’ve ever stayed. The building is full of character, with historical artifacts and decor that make every hallway and room feel like a step back in time…in the best way. You can tell a lot of care and pride has gone into preserving its rich past.

The service was top-notch. Patrick, the host, was incredibly welcoming, helpful, and attentive throughout my stay. The rooms and shared spaces were spotless, and the whole hotel had a warm, homey feel. As a long-distance hiker, having access to the kitchen to cook my own meals was a huge bonus and made the experience even better.

It’s also affordable for what you get…great value, especially in a town like Silverton. I would recommend the Avon Hotel to absolutely anyone coming through the area, whether you’re hiking the CDT or just looking for a unique and charming place to stay. Can’t wait to return!

Great value option for exploring Silverton and the surrounding area. Would highly recommend for your next trip to Silverton/San Juan's.
