The Barley Tap and Tavern

Executive Chef Cory served us the most decadent and scrumptious pretzel we've ever experienced. This wasn't just a warm bread knot, it was carb heaven. Stoneground mustard, homemade cheese sauce, all served up with a juicy beer and smile made this a 5++++ star experience.

Dan is like a one-man band, except instead of playing instruments, he's serving up drinks and making sure no one's glass is ever empty. I'm not in the market for making new friends and that's why I go to the Barley. We're all friends here. The locals choice.

Excellent selection of craft beers, particularly Colorado beers. (They also have wine & ciders.) Also very good happy hour prices ($5/pint when we were there on a weekday). Suggestion: enjoy the great beer at reasonable prices here, order food from the Greek gyro place right next door and bring it over to Barley. Makes for a reasonably-priced dinner outing in Steamboat.

I've had some good beers here in the past, but had a pretty terrible experience here this past weekend. The bartender served one of my friends, and the other 5 of us were all waiting to order after him at the end of the bar, but the bartender wouldn't even acknowledge us after that, and just kept serving 4 groups of people that showed up after us. Maybe the bartender didn't like making the mix drink my first friend ordered and thought we were going to order the same (kind of a complicated drink), but next time I'm in town I'm not going to bother with this place.

We found The Barley early on in our time in Steamboat, and it has become comfortably our favorite place to grab a beer with friends. They offer a fantastic rotating selection of mostly Colorado beers (with some tourist taps that are almost invariably excellent), friendly service by people who know their beer, and fun events on a regular basis. It can get busy in the evenings, but can also be a surprisingly quiet place to grab a drink after lunch and get some work done in the afternoons.

Stopped in for a couple flights of beer while on vacation. Cool atmosphere in downtown Steamboat! Great selection of beers. The cookie dough stout was awesome!
