Cocktails and atmosphere were great but the food and service did not meet expectations. The Hamachi Sashimi was very good, Oysters were ok, my friend had the elk loin and it was good but I ordered the Ribeye and it was extremely disappointing. For $95 the steak was tough and the flavor was off. I’ve had better steaks at cheap chain restaurants. Potato’s were undercooked and the server forgot our Brussel sprouts. For a $200+ per person meal the experience missed the mark.

We had a confirmed 7:30pm reservation for four at The Grand Telluride on 5th February, specifically booking a high top table. We arrived on time (slightly early) and were told our table was not ready. The previous diners were still seated and had not even received desserts.

After waiting and seeing no realistic timeline, and with our high top table still fully occupied, we spoke directly with the hostess. We explicitly asked whether, given the delay, it would be acceptable to cancel and whether we would be charged. We were clearly told that it was acceptable to cancel due to the delay, that we would not be charged, and that the situation would be communicated to management.

We relied on that assurance and left.

We were later charged under the restaurant’s cancellation policy.

When we contacted management, we were told we were “unwilling to wait” and that if we had waited “just a few minutes” the table would have been freed up. That explanation ignores the central issue: we left only after being told by staff that it was acceptable to cancel due to the delay and that no charge would apply.

If the restaurant’s position is that guests should disregard what they are told at the host stand and wait indefinitely “just in case,” then their front of house communication and policy enforcement are clearly not aligned.

We understand cancellation policies and booked knowing one was in place. However, enforcing a policy after staff have explicitly assured guests it will not apply is not reasonable.

We were offered a $100 voucher, half of what we were charged. As visitors from the UK who are rarely in Telluride, this gesture has little practical value and does not resolve the underlying issue.

The delay itself was not the problem, delays happen. The problem was the handling afterwards. When guests arrive on time, book a specific table, check before leaving, and rely on staff guidance, they should not later be penalised for doing exactly that.

I expect the response to this review may state that staff are trained not to authorise cancellations in this way. However, that only reinforces the concern, because this is precisely what happened. If that is not in line with policy, then there is clearly a breakdown in training or communication, and customers should not bear the financial consequence of that.

Unfortunately, this experience reflected a lack of accountability rather than hospitality.

Amazing meal from start to finish. We ordered oysters, bread, pork belly, and spicy tuna to start and my entree (pictured) was an amazing elk dish. Others in my party ordered the duck and trout and loved it too! Expensive but worth it!!

Our server Kelsey was amazing as well as the entirety of our dining experience. Best sashimi and oysters I’ve ever had. If you’re in Telluride, don’t miss out on this place.

The atmosphere and restaurant itself was nice. Staff was friendly and decent; however, the food was terrible. I ordered the bone in NY steak. The steak was rare/blue in some parts and medium in others (I asked for medium). It left a terrible aftertaste as well. I can make better steaks at home.

The wedge salad was drenched in dressing and nearly inedible. For $500 I expect much better.

Erich and his amazing team at the Grand catered our wedding, and both the food and the service were A+. We truly cannot recommend them highly enough! They created an incredibly high-quality and delicious menu, and our guests loved the food. We are still hearing compliments about the beef gyoza appetizers during cocktail hour! Erich helpfully guided our menu choices but was extremely willing to accommodate all our requests. And on the wedding day, both Erich and his team were true professionals. They handled a remote venue, bad weather, broken generators & lots of last minute chaos with grace, and still produced a top quality meal. We were incredibly impressed.

Don’t count on this place honoring your reservation. We eloped and had a beautiful wedding in telluride and just hours before our reservation, these yahoos canceled our reservation leaving us to scramble to find something else. Bad business. Awful mentality. They do not care one second about you and it shows in every aspect.

Our evening at The Grand was great. The food and drinks were delicious. I want to give a BIG shout out to staff for finding my pearl earring that I felt certain I lost during our dinner. It had been 8 days since we had evening so I did not expect to hear from them. Today I went picked up my pearl earring!! Thank you for remembering and following thru with me!!

Celebrating our daughter's wedding, we expected the best for the rating. Not so. Everything was the quality of an average eatery but the prices were horrible. We expected a little more. The lasagne was ok bit for $45 it didn't even come close to that quality. Very disappointing. The service was good but we sat at a booth that wasn't cozy. The desserts were just average too. Not worth the price.

We really enjoyed our entrees. Where this place shined though was our cocktails, salad and side. The Far East old fashioned is unique and amazing. My girlfriend had a legendary martini. The salad was maybe the best we ever had, and the carrots we ordered as a split side will be something we talk about for years

The service here was fantastic, I really enjoyed that part of the experience. Great view of the drones for 4th of July as well. Nice comfortable seating. The reason I am leaving this review is related to the food. Martini and shishitos, good. Wedge Salad, fine. Hamachi was OK. The crispy rice tuna - rice was borderline raw then fried, tuna tasted old. Roka in Scottsdale does it right, so I’ve had the best version. We both ordered the filet for our main and it was sous vide and clearly left in the bag for a long time. My steak meat quality was low and then the cooking technique was also done by someone not paying attention or inexperienced. The whole plate reminded me of a wedding caterer food. I really enjoyed the staff on a whole, and I don’t want to discount them for providing good service - but some focus on the food quality needs to be addressed for a $450 dinner for two.

Great fine dining option up in the mountains. I had the butternut squash lasagna, and I was very pleased. My wife had the trout. Cocktails were great too. First time I ever had cumin infused liqueur, so that was a cool thing to experience.
