Tried the rock n roll for the first time today. Originally was really happy with the experience, until about 3 hours later where I am throwing up. Be careful!

They make it work. Decent experience. I dont give less than 5 stars unless there is a fundamental failure.

Great food, friendly staff, and a relaxing vibe. I had a great experience at Happy Sumo. The sushi was fresh and flavorful, and the portions were surprisingly generous for the price. The Baja and Cabana rolls were standouts, and the seared tuna tataki was excellent. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere had a nice energy without being too loud. It’s a solid spot for a casual sushi night, and I’ll definitely be back. Also wanted to shoutout Tyler the manager. He is super amazing, very friendly and cordial and I'm glad they have someone like him to run the place!

The food quality has fallen. Some rolls had almost no fish. Doesn’t look/taste as good and skimpy on fish. They lost one of their better sushi chefs and they are not able to do orders right now.

These sushi rolls felt unfinished — even a child could have made them better. The rice wasn’t seasoned at all. The interior is pleasant, but the service and overall food quality are very disappointing.

I came to celebrate my anniversary. Dropped $150 on our tab. It was lunch, the rice was cold. Our server never checked in after she dropped off the food. The place was dead. The floors haven’t been vacuumed in ages either. Definitely not worth the value for the price.

Happy Sumo in Thornton is a welcome change from the usual paper-and-pencil sushi routine. It has more of an upscale, sit-down feel without losing the casual comfort that makes sushi dining enjoyable. The food itself was solid across the board. The fish on the Nigiri came out a touch warmer than expected, but it was undeniably fresh and the portions were generous. Each piece of Nigiri had a well-balanced cut of fish and a proper mound of rice—not skimpy, not overdone.
We went with the chef’s pick option, which turned out to be a fun experience with thoughtful selections that highlighted a good range of the menu. The tempura-fried roll stood out: crisp on the outside, flavorful inside, and not greasy at all.
If you’re after a quieter, more polished sushi experience where the focus is on quality and presentation rather than speed or novelty, this spot hits that mark. It’s a place to relax and enjoy good sushi without the chaos that comes with more crowded sushi bars.

I ordered pickup through doordash. Freshness was good, but overall I was underwhelmed. Portion sizes felt small for the price, and the Philly roll description on DoorDash was wrong — it didn’t come with spicy mayo or eel sauce, which I was really looking forward to, cause you usually dont see that. I’m also a sauce guy, so that was disappointing. The amount of ginger was tiny; I ran out before finishing even half of the three rolls I ordered. The Philly roll tasted fine but I’ve had better, and the yellowtail had a minced texture I didn’t enjoy. Not terrible, just not great — I’d probably order elsewhere next time personally. But that's mainly based on wrong descriptions, and small portion sizes.

We came here for the first time. Upon entering it smelled off and slightly moldy. It was very dark and impossible to see the interior or the food. Our server did not know the menu or the sake choices. We had sashimi which was ok. Followed by sushi rolls, which were not great and not fresh. We also ordered the chicken bento box which was blah and chewy. And the Szechwan beef, which arrived drowning in sauce and tasted like rubber. After eating the beef, we asked for a to go box and upon putting our leftovers into the to go box, we realized that we had all eaten a doily. When we asked to speak to a manager, she was hostile and completely unprofessional. She left us sitting there as they were closing for at least 20 minutes and then refused to do anything about the fact that we had all ingested the plastic covered paper doily. When I said that I did not feel like I should have to pay for that entrée, she threatened to call the police. We paid $135.20 and left, not to return. I did ask to speak with the owner and the manager said they are never there. We left feeling grossed out!
