Everything is awesome at The North House: the food is fresh and delicious, the atmosphere is cozy and bright and the service is top-notch!! I absolutely love the booths next to the window. It’s comfortable, even for a short person like me 😁. Both the hostess and the server greeted me with a big smile. The server is friendly and considerate. The North House also has private rooms which I would definitely consider for private partied.

Went on a Sunday for brunch with some friends and enjoyed the experience so well I booked a reservation for that following Friday for a birthday celebration. Both times the staff were amazing and personal! The food was delicious and the speed of service was fantastic! We received a free sampling and a complimentary dessert during the birthday dinner. Will definitely me a consistent customer here and plan to recommend this restaurant to anyone who asks!

My foodie friends and I travel all over Connecticut in search of memorable dining experiences, usually guided by trusted recommendations or word of mouth. When one of us spotted The North House on Facebook, we decided it was time for a group outing. Only later did we realize this gem is located in the beautifully restored former Avon Old Farms Inn—an immediate sign we were in for something special.
Tonight, our group of ten—five couples—gathered for dinner, with guests traveling from Mystic, Rhode Island, Colchester, and Tolland/Storrs. The moment we walked in, we knew the trip was worth it. The North House blends modern American cuisine with historic charm, creating an atmosphere that feels both elevated and warmly inviting.
🍽️ Exceptional Food From Start to Finish We indulged in everything: appetizers, entrées, mocktails, desserts, and coffee. Every dish was beautifully prepared, flavorful, and thoughtfully presented. One of our friends, Mark—who has dined at Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen—declared that The North House’s Beef Wellington beats Ramsay’s. That alone speaks volumes.

My son is getting married there so we took a tour and ended it by having dinner. The appetizers and drinks were excellent. We had several appetizers Brussel sprouts…French onion soup…clam chowder…steak tartar..each was fantastic. Our dinner was delicious. My steak was tender and quite flavorful. I highly recommend going here for dinner.

didnt even get a chance to dine. Reservation's are required on weekends apparently or they turn you away. Yes, thats right. You cant even wait for a seat if you want they simply tell you to leave. Hostess wasn't nice about it either...go elsewhere !

Enjoyed a rehearsal dinner. The food was excellent and portions large. Service was good and atmosphere was nice. While it got fixed, took some time to get some Air conditioning on. Drinks were refreshed quickly and tasted good as well.

We went there for my birthday. A beautoful, rustic atmosphere. Equestrian. The service was impeccable. The chef sent out a couple little tidbits which were amazing. Had baked oysters. I love oysters and these dis not disappoint I had the beef wellington which was succulent. Moist and juicy snd the pastry was amazing. Hubby had the pork chop which is smoked. wow. Absolutely incredible and highly recommend. They cut it in front of you and then plate it by your table. Then onto dessert. We got the bananas foster which was a culinary show. The bring the grill tables idea, flame the spiced bananas and serve them hot with a smooth vanilla ice cream. Amazing. Highly recommend. Great place, great food and wonderful service

Positively the best dining experience out I have had in a very long time. Unique and charming old tavern atmosphere. Amazingly attentive waitstaff. The menu I would call "curated". Not terribly extensive and yet something for everyone. From the wine selections to the food, nothing disappointed us. The chef sent our table an unexpected sampler of their salmon tartar. It was delicious. We even had live music on this evening. Our waitress Leslie was fabulous. Engaging, humorous and very efficient. I cannot say enough good things about this place. I will be back.
