We’ve been twice now and the food is not only great, but consistent. Others have mentioned the French Onion Soup and Burgers which I’d argue are the best in the area! Aside from their standard menu, they offer weekly specials to keep things interesting. It’s your standard Irish pub but you feel at home when you walk in the door.
Truly what separates Whitlock’s from the rest is their customer service. They truly care about their patrons. They go out of their way to make sure you are satisfied and taken care of. We’ve dined with our young kids (which is no easy feat) and have only been met with unwavering support to help our visit go smoothly. We will definitely be back supporting this business again!!

This place makes you feel like home. The food is great, and live music! Best burgers in the area and pouring a proper pint of Guinness!

Whitlock’s Restaurant in Bethel, CT invited me out to kick off their Four Horsemen Showdown! Challengers have one hour to eat the following:
-A quadruple cheeseburger topped with pickles
-A quadruple chicken cutlet burger topped with 4 fried eggs and 8 slices of bacon
-2 orders of two loaded “double dogs” (two hot dogs per bun)
-Fries, onion rings, Cole slaw
-One root beer float
Successful completion grants you a free meal and a t-shirt. Failure will result in a $90 bill and immortal disappointment.
I made my way to Whitlock’s where they sectioned off my own private table and even curated a custom playlist loaded with, Metallica, Pantera, Lamb of God 🤘🏿. Just when I couldn’t get more amped, the giant platter of challenge food arrived! It weighed approximately 8.3lbs total (without the root beer float). Without letting this succulent spread get cold, I got to eating.
After a relatively quick start, fatigue arrived sooner than expected, but I pushed along not letting my rate of perceived exertion deter me. After an arduous 49:31, I successfully completed all the requisite food becoming the very first person to take on and finish The Four Horsemen Showdown.
Shout out to Johnny in the kitchen for cooking up all my food! Thems were some DAMN fine burgers! I can legit say, these were some of the best chicken patties I’ve eaten. Restaurant challenges are way more enjoyable when food is prepared this well 👏🏿. Thank you!
I also need to thank the entire community at Whitlock’s! So many regulars turned out to watch me try to devour a ton of food! Everyone treated me with supportive camaraderie and I truly enjoyed getting to hang out with everyone and answer any and ALL gross eating questions 💩.
Finally, there isn’t a thank you enormous enough for John Murray for concocting and hosting this crazy fun challenge for me and my competitive eating friends to take on! It was such a treat not having to drive over an hour to take on a restaurant challenge! I hope we can get more eaters in here to CRUSH my time 💪🏿. I also can’t wait to return again for some more devilish creations in 2026 😈

Let me start by saying I need to eat this food fresh because it tastes so good delivered. I need it straight from the kitchen. Mozzarella sticks great taste. Hot dogs with cheese and bacon amazing. Even the fries still tasted good after a car ride.

I went to Whitlock's a couple of weekends ago and had the absolute best meal. I ordered the French dip and it was mouthwatering good. My server's name was Tisha and she was honestly one of the best server's I've ever meet. Her smile light up the room and she went above and beyond to make sure my husband and I were happy from the time I walked in, to the time we left. I would recommend Whitlock's to anyone who hasn't been.

I went to Whitlocks today with 6 ladies for lunch. It was my choice as I had been there on mother's Day with friends and had loved the captains platter. This was not the same place I've been many times before. The food took so long we could not understand what happened. Two of the ladies had burgers which they could not eat. The special sauce that was supposed to be on them was barely there, there were no tomatoes and the buns tasted stale. Neither of them ate more than a third of them, one friend had her favorite grilled shrimp in rice which was a totally different dish than it had been, I had fried clams which were ok but definitely not like the ones I had on mother's Day. The other three, two whom had chicken wraps and one eggplant enjoyed their meals. We asked if it was a different chef. While the server was very nice, there was no mention of doing anything to make the situation better for the two who found the burgers so unappetizing that they didn't eat. It kind of left us with a bad taste...on top of the already bad taste from the unappetizing food. Unfortunately, as we do out often, we will not be going back. Sad because it used to be very good

The menu is full of scratch-made dishes prepared fresh daily, and everything I’ve tried has been delicious. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between casual and welcoming, and the team manages to be both professional and warm at the same time. The French Dip with prime rib is absolutely mouthwatering, and the attention to detail in every dish really shines through. Owner John is personable and genuinely cares about his guests, and the entire staff reflects that same friendly energy. This is the kind of restaurant you’ll want to return to again and again.
Always a good meal.

For over 30 plus years Whitlocks in Bethel has been one of go to places for my wife and I would go for a good meal with great service. The last few times we have experienced substandard service with extensive wait on food plus having to ask for server to bring water and rolls. Last night my wife and I at 5:20 pm on a Saturday evening went to Whitlocks and was surprised there were not many patrons in the dining room or in the bar area. We sat down in one of the booths in the bar area and immediately order a drink and soda from the waitress. Eighteen minutes later we were still waiting to the waitress to come over with our drinks and take our meal order. Frustrated we looked and noticed the waitress was just taking to other employees. At that point we just left to go someplace else in town to eat. Since the change in ownership we both have seen a significant changes in staffing, service, and prices that in our opinion has reduce the quality of Whitlocks dinning experience.

We tried Whitlock's Restaurant for the first time today and were impressed! The atmosphere was cozy and lively, and the staff were welcoming and attentive. we ordered the prime rib, which was incredibly delicious, and it lived up to the hype.
What stood out most was how the owner introduced himself to us when we entered the restaurant and even treated us to a very delicious free dessert. Prices were reasonable.
I’d recommend this place to anyone looking for American cuisine, and we’ll be back to try more of the menu!
