I had to drive there to place an order as no one had answered the phone for the 2 days I tried calling. Then the guy at the register was incredibly rude when I asked if the phones were out. The bakery case was partially filled as if no one decided to bake that day. The last rum cake I ordered was horrible. Not sure what's happened, but this place has gone down hill. It used to be our go-to bakery. Sadly, we won't go back.

We recently visited this bakery for the first time. Unfortunately, we noticed that one of the Pastel de Nata pastries had mold on it. We informed the person at the counter, but to our surprise, he just looked at it and placed it back instead of removing it. It was really disappointing to see such poor hygiene practices.

The 2 ladies that helped us were great. However, the taste of the food has gone down hill. Haven't been here in years and I heard it has new owners. We found mold, yes green fuzzy mold on our piece of cheesecake. I called at 6. It rang and rang. I looked to see when they close. 7. I called back. Rang once and no one said anything. Called back several times and just a busy signal. Will never go back. Such a shame.

We had parents who lived in Bloomfield until a year or so ago, and so we always went to Pasticcerria for soups, pizza, subs, pastries, etc...always top shelf. Yesterday I made a special trip to pick up some desserts for friends we had coming over, telling them they were in for a special treat and to get ready for some of the best tasting pastries they ever had. I ordered two chocolate eclairs, a connoli and a pound of almond cookies. When I got there, Pasticcerria said they had run out of the almond cookies, so I bought a different type of cookie that they said had just been made, but they ended up being dry and tasteless. The connoli I ordered was inedible, as the ricotta filling had soured from being around too long. It actually tasted mouldy. And the eclairs were not filled with the normal custard filling, but a lemon filling, giving the eclairs an abnormal taste! Needless to say, I was terribly embarrassed when we and our guests began spitting our desserts into our napkins. We universally agreed that the desserts were terrible, and I told them that a lot had changed since our last visit to this once great shop. Never again...and I caution others not to waste their time. The desserts were not just bad, they were disgusting.

I ordered a cake for a birthday party. When I went to pick it up I was told the baker hadn’t come in the day before. The cake I ordered has been a family favorite for years and no other will substitute. I asked if they knew the cake wasn’t going to be ready, why they didn’t call me to give me a heads up. They offered me a chocolate cake which I took because I had to have a cake. I wasn’t impressed with the cake as it was dry and the mousse was not mousse. Their cakes have changed. Sadly, we have lost a Bloomfield gem. I really hope someone who cares will buy the place and carry on the work of the founder. In the meantime I need to find a new bakery.

I hate to leave a negative review for any Business and I have very rarely done that so far unless it will help others in any way or form. We have been buying cakes and pastries from this place for more than 15+ years and we always feel so excited to visit every time to try their pastries or cookies. But things are now completely different, this place is not run properly and I believe it poses some health hazard. We recently ordered a Birthday cake for our son's birthday party and we took the cake directly from the bakery to the party venue. When we cut the cake and distributed to all the kids, almost every kid returned the cake to us or threw it in the trash. Later when we had a piece of cake we found the smell of Garlic / the stale taste of the cream. We also experienced symptoms of food poisoning the next day and was surprised to note that it's because of the cake. The next day we called and let the owner know of this issue and he suggested to come to the store and show the receipt for a refund. We showed up 2 days in a row but they were closed without any notice. Finally we went to the store when it was opened and the owner insisted to get the left over cake / some portion of the cake and just not the receipt alone. We told him politely that he didn't specify this over the phone, if so we would have saved some cake in a container and stored it in the refrigerator, since the cake box occupies a major space in the refrigerator we threw it on the trash day to clear the space. He became agitated and started becoming so rude was threatening to call the police if I don't leave the place. The authentic taste and the quality of this store is now completely gone and I would recommend people to stay away from this place and look for better Italian bakeries.
I ordered a custom cake for my daughter's 21st birthday and made some changes (color) with more than 48 hours notice and with the owner's approval. When we went to pick up the cake, not only did the bakery get the color completely wrong (supposed to be blue and they made it pink), but when I brought it to their attention, the owner was dismissive and condescending. Rather than apologize or offer any sort of solution, I was met with disrespect and a tone that made it clear he didn't care about my concerns.
I asked for my money back which he refunded. My family and I have gotten all of our cakes from this bakery for the past 20 yrs. In the past, his father would've taken the cake to the back and redo the cool whip frosting with the blue decorations without any hesitation. I was upset and I let him know. When I walked out, he followed me outside to take a picture of my car. At this time it started to feel like harassment and I left.
I understand mistakes happen, but how a business handles those mistakes matters. In this case, the lack of accountability and basic courtesy was unacceptable. I won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who values professionalism or customer service. I will let everyone I know about this horrible experience as word of mouth if a powerful thing.

It truly saddens me to leave this review. I remember when this bakery was a Bloomfield gem—I used to come here regularly for Italian cookies, cupcakes, and fresh bread. On Saturday, I stopped in to treat my daughters to cupcakes and picked up a slice of cake for myself. Unfortunately, the cake was dry and tasted stale, and the cupcakes were dry and frosting was hard. The good thing is the customer service is still pleasant. This place once felt like a staple in the community, and I hope it finds its way back to the quality and charm it used to have.

This bakery is an area favorite (people vome from outside Bloomfield because of their authentic italian bakery vibe - and flavors! From cakes to canoli, they have it all. Family owned and run, places like this make a community all the sweeter.
