Wish I could review food. Never got to sit or eat. I learned one thing, don't go with more than a couple people. I had a party of 8. My daughter loves this place and wanted to go for her birthday. I've never been here so I was excited to try. Went in and was told 30-45 minute wait. Gave my name and was told 6:45 was my spot. Waited until 7:30ish as another party larger than mine came in after me and was about to sit. We ended up walking out and had to find some where else to have my daughter's birthday dinner at almost 8pm at night.

If I could give no stars in every category I would. We were guests of friends at hibachi dinner. They raved about Kampai! The restaurant is outdated and very dirty!!! The trench around the grill had a disgusting build up of grease etc. The overhead fans fail to exhaust the smoke. The food was overcooked and had a burnt taste. Everything was excessively salty and just tasted terrible. We recently had hibachi at 9 East and it was remarkably better and the restaurant is immaculate, well lit and much more appealing. Most of all the food was fabulous. Kampai needs a complete overhaul and thorough deep cleaning. The little bit of food that I did eat made me stomach sick all night.

I had a great experience. Customer service was excellent . I didn’t have to wait to be seated . The food was amazinggggggg and they serve really good portions. Everything was flavorful. I’ll be going back ☺️☺️ they also gave people a rose for Mother’s Day 🥰 I’m from New York and this place is one of the best hibachi spot .

My wife and i went here a few weeks ago and the waitress spilled water on our table and did not clean it up, it was reported to management and they talked with. She never came to apologize nor clean up the mess. The Manager’s after we ate dinner Confronted us, and ask us to leave her a tip. Which said to us that they approved of her behavior and supported it. I would not recommend any people of color to attend. This restaurant for their actions are blatant that they do not welcome our business.

horrible service. they overcharged me by $100 for no apparent reason. dry food, mean waiters, and overall not a good experience. i do not recommend coming here. if you do, CHECK your bill. they might overcharge you aswell.
Food is OK, their definitely understaffed and take forever. Reservations made a week ahead of time and still say an hour after the promised time. My bill was $112 TOTAL. they added 18% tip that was included in the $112 bill. I added another 5 dollars to make it 20% or so. Check my card and they've charged $130 plus another charge for $12.... robbery. Simple robbery.
Won't be going back ever

Come here twice a year and this was the worst experience. If you dont honor reservations dont let us make them. Made reservations for 8:30 arrived on time and was finally sat down an hour later. Left at 10:40. If i didnt love the shrimp flambe i would rate much lower.

Great hibachi and the sushi is really good, one of best quality sushi experiences I’ve had in a hibachi establishment. Service is top notch. Very friendly atmosphere and staff.
If I could give zero stars, I would. This place is an absolute dump. The decor hasn’t been updated since the day it opened, and everything feels old, worn, and dirty. On top of that, the service and management are an absolute joke.
We were handed a hibachi menu, so we ordered hibachi, only to have it served completely cold. When I brought it up, the owner told me that the waitstaff was supposed to warn us not to order hibachi if we weren’t sitting at a hibachi table. Seriously? Why give someone a hibachi menu if they can’t actually order it?
To make matters worse, the hibachi noodles were made from angel hair pasta and were completely flavorless. Even my three-year-old grandson, who loves hibachi noodles, took two bites and declared he didn’t want any more. That says everything.
The owner also claimed it’s “impossible” for the kitchen to cook hibachi dishes one at a time and keep them warm. As if that wasn’t bad enough, they charged me 50% of the total cost of the food as a way of supposedly making me happy. How is paying for cold, flavorless food in a rundown restaurant supposed to make anyone happy? Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs—it’s a waste of time and money.
