A little dated and showing wear. This is cash only, so come prepared. Food was OK. Owner was a little quirky. We had been traveling for hours, and my husband needed to use the restroom. She had him sit down so she could go over the menu before he could use the restroom. Then we got a lecture on how to flush the toilet.

The proprietor was exceeding accommodating..she wears every hat, waitress, cook and server so the patience of patrons is appreciated.
Just 2 small points kept from 5 stars...we only found out after seating it was a cash establishment so had to leave for an ATM up the street
Who carries cash these days? Lol And this, only because I prefer my coffee dark, she puts the milk in your coffee before serving
Note both of those very small issues then have a lovely meal!

Went here with my family, my brother can't eat the food served (he can only eat certain things, none of which are served here) so we brought food for him. Server yelled at my mom telling her that my brother couldn't eat his food because it was a "health code violation" (which is not true) and tried to tell her how to parent her own child. We left because of how rude she was and went to get food somewhere else that would let my brother eat and be nice to us. Judging by the other reviews as well I have no clue how this place is still open.
Dietary restrictions: They don't allow you to bring your own food if needed.
Kid-friendliness: Very rude towards children with specific dietary needs.

This is a great place if you love local history. Aside from our delicious meal of an omelet and chicken sandwich, we had the pleasure of learning about the history of the diner and the rail industry in North Canaan. One thing to note before coming is that the diner is cash only.

Today being my partner’s birthday we popped in, just traveling through. Our waitress (the only waitress) was also the cook (the only cook.) I asked for coffee with cream and Splenda, they don’t have cream or Splenda, only milk. I asked for water, and didn't receive it. She seemed busy and angry, so I went to my car for my bottle of water. She yells that she didn’t forget my water and not to open my water in the diner. Uhh….. -then she brought me over a small cup of water with no ice. “Do not open that bottle of water in here!” Uh, No problem. Food was served, (and the check at this time also, good thing we didn’t want pie or anything) French toast with syrup already ALL OVER it. None on the table. My partner ordered a burger which the waitress cook lady said she would “have to take back because there’s skin on the plate” and then reached in to remove an onion skin off his burger with her fingers, then told us “don’t worry, my hands are clean.” Very terrible atmosphere, rules written everywhere for patrons, and one very angry cook/waitress. We didn’t even eat the food. We weren’t hungry anymore and didn’t even want to be there. We left the cash on the table with the check and started walking out. She followed us outside, asking why we were leaving. My partner said “you were rude to us.” She started arguing with him that she wasn’t rude. We got in the car and don’t recommend this place to anyone, unless they like abuse. And DEFINITELY NOT on your birthday. Needless to say, we just paid $30 for food we didn’t eat. What an awful and embarrassing experience.

Stay far away! Dirty, dusty, smelly. Owner is an absolute lunatic. Can’t believe it’s actually a business.
The food was great, especially the French toast, and even tho there are some funky rules it added to the atmosphere and we had a great time!

I was traveling through town and wanted some breakfast so I stopped by. There are rules handwritten on paper all over the doors and was very confusing to understand. I was curious what they were so I took my time to read it all but I was rushed inside by the lady working there. It seems like this place is stuck in hardcore COVID restrictions although zi wasn't forced to wear a mask (if I was, I would have walked out anyways). While the place is clean, it is worn down and uncomfortable. I didn't want to sit at the counter but I was forced to - wasn't going to argue. The menu was challenging to read. There was a combination of print and handwritten notes which I couldn't read because the menu was printed and laminated 30 years ago and is scratched to hell. I couldn't decipher what to order so I just asked for eggs, potatoes, toast and bacon. It did come with coffee. The lady that serves is also the cook so that was an interesting touch. The food came promptly but was an extremely small portion. The toast was burned so that wasn't enjoyable. The potatoes were the best part. The portion was so small I actually ordered a second portion to fulfill my hunger. Then the bill came. How the hell was this $29? I couldn't understand the menu and I didn't have the desire to argue it so I left cash and walked out. At $29, that means each meal was $14.50. How the hell are two eggs, two slices of toast, 4oz of potatoes and two strips of bacon $14.50?!I recommend everyone please read the other reviews - they are accurate. I didn't have as an unpleasant experience as others but I opted to be very open minded and relaxed because I was hungry. This place is obviously run by an insanely LIBERAL person and I was afraid to say anything in fear of getting kicked out of the only diner in town, that I saw. I won't be back. There is a reason it is always empty.

As soon as I walked in the door she tried forcing me to sit down and buy eggs with free coffee….Explained I wanted soup only to go. She said she doesn’t have any soup go across the street and to recommend her business. And tell romas they sent us and to come back, I started walking across the street she came outside yelling parking is for customers only to move my vehicle. This is private property Romas was 25 feet away And not one car in the parking lot. She screamed yelled and was very rude but parked her car sideways.
