Chipotle who?! These tacos were amazing. Stuffed with French fries and all the fixings. The sauces were great as well, I made sure to pour some on before every bite ;-)

I recently ordered the Cali Burrito from the Green Grunion ("GG") Food Truck, which traveled from its Danbury home to Gastropark in West Hartford. I loved it! GG's Cali burrito was stuffed with all things I wanted, like marinated steak, guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo and cheese. And one other thing I'll get to in a moment. The flour tortillas for burritos at other places are often stiff and dry. GG's was not dry and it was pliable. It was so full, it was busting at the seems. GG specializes in "San Diego" style burritos, which I was told include the ingredient I have not yet mentioned -- French fries. If you had told me San Diego style burritos featured battered mahi mahi, I would have believed it. I even would have believed frozen Açaí purée. But French fries? I guess San Diego is the new Pittsburgh (Hey there Primanti Bros). I was concerned the fries would get soggy stuffed inside a burrito, especially after I drove home and took a bunch of food pics. Nope -- still crunchy and great. Our wrapped burritos were placed in a box, and then, they were surrounded by tortilla chips, and wafery bicycle wheel shaped snack chips that reminded me of Funyuns. Did the Green Grunion make a snack chip similar to a Funyun solely because the words rhyme? I hope so! The owner was a super nice guy. It was a pleasure to give business to such a friendly person. I had a great experience with the Green Grunion Food Truck and I'd recommend you check them out, wherever they may be, for outstanding San Diego style burritos. Did I mention some of them come stuffed with French fries?

I've been meaning to check this truck out after all the glowing reviews I had read, and finally had the opportunity when they visited Gastropark in West Hartford. I ordered one Cali burrito and 2 different empanadas. The folks there quoted me 20 minutes, which struck me as a bit long for a food truck, but quality sometimes comes with a little wait.Sat down with my buddy (who had ordered from another truck there) at a bench in sight of the Grunion. Then the wait began. The day was glorious so I was in no rush, and I hate to be the pushy customer asking for updates. I noticed business was steady, they were definitely the most popular truck that afternoon.By the time my buddy had received and finished his food I noticed that some customers who had been behind me in line had gotten their food. I have worked busy lunch counters before so I understand this can happen, sometimes you need to get simple orders out in order to clear tickets. However at this point close to 50 minutes had passed. I asked for an update and was told it would be "another two minutes, your ticket is right here." It took just under 10 minutes longer to get my food.I took my food to go at that point. I had expected to have a sit down meal with a friend but at that point he had to get going. I don't mind waiting for a good meal, but after multiple folks getting their orders ahead of me I was fed up. One of the appeals of food trucks is fast service, and that was sorely lacking.Judging by the reviews on here this was the exception to the usual service. But with all the food truck options out there these days (as well as Parkville Market) I won't be returning.

Holy guacamole - if you are looking for a burrito that's probably too big to finish, this is your truck. We were at Black Hog brewing this weekend and The Green Grunion was the food truck on deck. I love a good burrito so I was excited to try them out. Their menu is pretty simple - a few different burritos and some empanadas. I was pleased to find out you don't have to order stock directly from the menu - you can add some items or mix & match. I ordered a chicken burrito with black beans (also has cheese and pico inside) and it was huge! The fillings were really good, too. It also came with a side of chips and some interesting crunchy styrofoamy things (I swear, they were edible) - not much flavor BUT the dipping sauce on the side was amazing. You can opt for mild, medium, or hot. I got the medium and it was a great little sauce to add onto the burrito itself or dip the chips in. Definitely grab a burrito at this truck if you see it in town!

One of those really rare places that every time you go back is somehow better than the time before. I highly recommend this amazing truck! When paired with a good beer there's nothing better!

We stumbled on the Green Grunion food truck at GastroPark, following a terrible experience at a local restaurant (terrible as in throw food away after one bite terrible). We were hungry and cranky, and then I saw the sign for empanadas. It definitely turned my day around! We opted for three empanadas, beef, chicken, and their special of the day, pinto bean and cheese. They told us they make everything from scratch and cooked to order, and it was apparent when eating the food. The fillings were fresh and not all dried out. The empanadas were perfectly crispy and hot. A lot of places that serve empanadas keep them in a warmer so they're dried out and pasty by the time you eat them. Not at the Green Grunion. I am an empanada snob and can say with certainty that these are the best I've ever had from any food truck or local restaurant. Highly recommend you check them out!
