My family had dinner at the Gelston, after watching a theater show next door. Gelston House impressed with an elegant atmosphere, cozy fireplace, demure lighting. The bar area had a cool, classy vibe. Friendly server and staff. Everyone enjoyed their meals, with particularly mention of excellent lamb chops and the Gelston chicken entrees. One person in our family is mobility challenged and uses a scooter, no problem entering the front entrance and was welcomed to scooter to our table. 5 stars all around!
Unfortunately, every item we ordered seems like it came frozen from Sysco and was then slathered in butter to mask the taste.
Too bad because it’s a beautiful atmosphere and the service was excellent.
I’d skip this spot or just grab a drink.
Able to view the swinging bridge from where we sat.
We were at Gelston House for brunch on Sunday with friends. Service was excellent and the food good and what we expected. And the view is always wonderful. A solid, enjoyable experience.
This is a lovely restaurant next to the Goodspeed Opera House along the Connecticut River. The dining room is a large rectangle with windows around three sides. There are wonderful salads and great entrees and cocktails. Service is always friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. A good place before or after the theatre or if you're in the area visiting one of the local attractions like Gillette Castle.
Lovely wait person Samantha. Beautiful views, posh but not snobby, great menu, delicious food. Right next door to The Goodspeed Opera House. Did not stay at the hotel, however, I can imagine the rooms are beautiful. Thoroughly enjoyed!
We had a great meal. Service was excellent and we really enjoyed the food.
Absolutely delicious food! Great service from Ava. Prices are not outrageous like so many restaurants have become.
I had a perfect dining experiance. Food was outstanding. Loved the view.
A warm greeting and river view seats certainly started the lunch on an upbeat note. The service was prompt and attentive.
So, why three stars? The food. Mary had a chicken panini, which didn't look like panini, but a plain toasted sandwich, in which the contents were so slippery that she ended up using her knife and fork. And, it was bland.
I had the fish and chips. The slab of cod was over done, with too thick breading. It tasted okay, but not wonderful.
Two warm buns were served, which were dry. The butter was cold and hard.
The plus was the French fries - crispy and tasty.
If one could eat ambiance, this would be a five star restaurant.

We had a wonderful lunch here last week before seeing a Chorus Line at the Goodspeed opera house. We were hoping to eat outside on the beautiful patio however, that day was a particular chilly, windy day so we ate in the pub. Great relaxed atmosphere and great service as well. Food was delicious. Drinks were excellent! A must try before or after a show at the Goodspeed.
Pre-play dinner so it was very busy. We made reservations. Food was very good.
A night out for some theater & dined at The Gelston House before the show. We were seated in the fireplace room that was a little more intimate than the Wine Room or the Main Dining Room. Service was a bit slow but it was a Saturday night. Food was excellent & we'll be coming back!
Dined here for a wedding rehearsal dinner. Food and service were both very good. The view is amazing at sunset with small skipper planes landing nearby and the bridge in the distance.
Delicious food with great service and beautiful views. Next to Goodspeed Opera House which was very convenient. I highly recommend this restaurant and can't wait to go back.
