Excellent steak!!! Cooked perfectly along with the shrimp. Had a great meal to celebrate my birthday.
We ordered calamari and crabcakes to start. The calamari was so dry it was like eating chips. I wouldn't order it again. The crabcakes were good not great. Filet mignon was a bit dry and in the thin side. Ribeye was thin but cooked perfectly. The cauliflower augratin was the best thing we had that night. We also had the gnocchi with short rib which was really good. Wine was great, service really good. The asparagus wasn't great. Overall a good experience but having travelled to Glastonbury specifically to go to J. Gilbert's I expected more.
The first time ever the sourdough bread was over baked and dry as well as too hard, almost like it was leftover and reheated, gross! My husband's Caesar salad was a joke. The presentation was ugly to say the least, lettuce was limp, size of the salad was small for the price and it looked like they poured the bottom of a breadcrumb bag over the whole salad making it look like leftover garbage salad. With those two things, my husband said that we were never coming back to eat there, as it is a pricey place to eat for starting off on the wrong foot. Then came our entrees which ended up being delicious and what we were expecting to get from this type of high end dining. Our server was lovely, but she was so busy that she didn't come back to check on the salad, but she did come back to check on our meals, which we loved. We don't like to complain and send things back because of ticking off a cook in the back and having something we didn't order in our food. We noticed they have new menus, making it look and feel more expensive, as are their prices much more expensive. If you are going after Capital Grill, you've got to do better!
Ordered the French onion soup for appetizer and it was delicious. Ordered the 6 oz filet with mashed potatoes and their corn side dish-everything was amazing. Service was excellent and ambiance was nice
Everything about this restaurant is amazing! Great for special occasions or an appetizer at the bar. Always fantastic

Food and services excellent. Very loud after 6pm. It was quiet at 5:30. If I come back it will be early. Like 5pm.

We had an amazing first experience and can't wait to go back! From the service, to the drinks, to the fantastic food!! Highlyrecommend!
Made a reservation a few days in advance for my husband and I's 4 year wedding anniversary this past Friday 9/20. This was a first time visit for us and surely won't be our last! Our visit was absolutely amazing, one of the best restaurant experiences we have ever had. Our waiter was Zack and he was the best! His knowledge of the restaurant, menu, food, and wine options was outstanding. He was such a great help with suggesting a good dessert wine for me as I can be a bit picky with my flavors. He suggested one in particular for me to try and nailed it. He also gave my husband a great recommendation for a dry red wine which he loved as well! The food was DELICIOUS and cooked to perfection. I got the 8oz filet mignon medium rare with the bacon & corn side as well as mashed potatos. My husband ordered the oyster Rockefeller as an appetizer which he said was amazing, and a flat iron steak medium rare with truffle sauce, mashed potatos, and crusted onion rings for his entrée. They had the cutest table setting for us with little hearts strewn across the tablecloth. And we were even given a complimentary *made in house* ice cream dessert to celebrate our occasion. That really made our anniversary feel special. The pricing was extremely reasonable for everything as well. We highly recommend dining here you will not be disappointed! Everything on the menu is made in house and you can absolutely taste that it is! Thank you so much for making our anniversary so memorable. We will most definitely be back :)

Our anniversary House salad was excellent, my girlfriend dinner was excellent. My top sirloin was very tough had to cut it into small pieces and chew it very long time before digesting it. The cocktail was mostly ice
I will recommend J Gilbs Every. Single. Time. someone asks what restaurant to go to. Time and time again they've proven themselves to know what they're doing. I don't even want to over complicate this review because I can go on and on about how great they are. 5 stars.
