I recently went for Sunday brunch and was less than impressed. The food was not seasoned very well and the quality of the ingredients I thought could be better. I don't think I'll be returning again.
5 ⭐️ for food presentation - my children especially loved the three crepes and there were lots of menu options.
I have a wheat and dairy allergy. I ordered three different crepes and said at least 3 times that everything needed to be gluten-free and also dairy free. When the food arrived, we dug in and when the server came to check how everything was, I asked to confirm it was all gluten free. He said, after a long pause, “no, it’s not.. I’m so sorry, I was mistaken.” He proceeded to offer to remake 1 of the 3 crepes (the untouched one). I am disappointed because it was a pricey meal, which was delicious but I was allergic to all of the items served to us after explicitly communicating 3 times the allergies and ordering gluten and dairy free items. Not intolerant, not food preferences but food allergies. There was no offer of compensation or a discount for the massive oversight and no real apology. I am disappointed as this place was adorable and the food was tasty but I will also now deal with physical side effects from consuming allergens.
Food was good but staff was really rude!!! Especially lady at front. Wouldn’t come back because the rudeness just made you uncomfortable and feel weird. Might order pick up only
The food here is good, but I was very confused by their menu options for vegans. Things started off great with a large variety of soups specifically labeled for vegans. But when I opened the humongous menu, aside from a few salads, there was not a single item for vegans. Why the discrepancy? I know their specialty is crepes, but they also offer sandwiches and other fare. I find this problem so often: An establishment can't even keep a tub of hummus on hand for lunch, or a can of beans to make a dinner? But, as I say, especially odd here, since their soup menu shows a high level of accommodation to vegans. Yet there is not a single vegan protein on the menu.
Decent food! Atmosphere was nice. Wait staff was not. I’ve been here two times and both times I’ve had the same waiter who would rather talk to his friends than provide service. I’m all for having a good time on the job but it’s not an inconvenience for me to ask questions about the menu.
Crepes are nice and thin. The omelet was good.
Staff was incredibly rude. Specifically Doris. Our waitress Doris failed to inform me that adding avocado to my sandwich would be a $4 up charge. While an up charge for avocado is normal, $4 is absurd. When I questioned the price Doris said to me “maybe the $4 was too much for you” so insanely unprofessional and rude. Is this how they train their staff to speak to paying customers? Doris then continued her rude rampage basically calling me poor until another employee stepped in. Along with her unprofessional words came disgusting body language insinuating that the job she applied for was an annoyance to her. The $4 was not too much it’s principle of the situation paying $4 for a few slices of avocado and the lack of communication on the staffs part. Food was mediocre will not be returning ever.
My husband and I had lunch on the patio today. I ordered the watermelon gazpacho and grilled chicken ratatouille crepe and he ordered the regular gazpacho and the raclette crepe. The soups came out at a normal pace, though were underwhelming. The regular gazpacho tasted like canned tomatoes. The watermelon gazpacho was slightly better, but nothing special. Then came the endless wait for our crepes. The waiter kept telling us our food would be out soon as every table around us, including those who were sat well after us, were served. He said it was because we ordered two courses. Unfortunately when my crepe arrived, it was basically inedible. The chicken was so dry and overcooked, the edges were discolored and brittle. Definitely will not return.
My wife and I used to come here a lot when we lived in Stamford. Great smoothies, crepes, and everything in between. Since moving a little further away, we’ve returned to Meli-Melo less frequently, but had a chance to visit a few days ago. It’s still awesome! And our 7 year old son says it’s on his top 10 list of all time restaurants!
Average and not so clean….I would not go back
Stopped in for a quick bite with my daughter who has celiac. The food was delicious and she was ecstatic to find a place where she could eat almost everything.
Restaurantji Recommends
Staff was extremely rude and treated our party of 7 very poorly due to an included gratuity charge. Did not even stay to listen to our orders and walked away from the table while we were trying to submit orders. My order and many other orders were made poorly, food quality was horrible.
Service is terrible !!!!!!
Food is not great
Great food and great attention with very affordable prices I’ll recommend this place
We had high hopes for this restaurant with a French name, but unfortunately, the experience was quite underwhelming. The galettes were not properly cooked and lacked the golden crispness that makes them enjoyable. The accompanying ingredients were not prepared or seasoned, resulting in a bland and uninspired dish.
The leek soup was especially disappointing—it had no taste of leeks at all, and the overwhelming amount of cream made it almost inedible. Even the tea water was not hot, so the tea couldn't steep properly.
It's a real shame, because the staff is clearly dedicated and kind. However, the quality of the food simply does not measure up.
Conclusion: AVOID.
Avoid this place at all costs.
Not only is the food incredibly mediocre (at best), the experience was horrible. Our dog barked once IN RESPONSE TO THE OTHER DOG HOWLING AT THE NEXT TABLE, and immediately someone came out and told us that our dog cannot bark. Said absolutely nothing to the other table.
Then, as we were feeding our HUMAN BABY pieces of crepe, they came out and told us, “I’m sorry but you cannot feed your dog on our patio”. We were completely confused by what they meant— and then figured out that they must have seen us break off pieces of crepe for the baby? We were truly astonished that they thought we were feeding our dogs, especially when it was clear that the baby was there as they had brought out a high chair for him, we had ordered an entire crepe for the baby (in addition to the two dishes for me and my husband), and the baby was not hidden in any way.
Even as the other dog barked throughout our meal, they said absolutely nothing. We counted at least eight different times when the dog next to us was howling. And then our dog responded ONCE. And immediately, the staff came straight to us and said again, your dog cannot bark on our patio. NO MENTION WHATSOEVER OF THE OTHER DOG GOING OFF NEXT TO US. The owners continued to eat in peace as we were interrupted. We have no idea why the owners with the dog barking wasn’t addressed— they were clearly staring straight at them and the dog barking.
Maybe it’s because we are from Manhattan and looked out of place and clearly not locals? Either way, the targeted selective rudeness is unacceptable.
