Charming and nice ambiance- food was fantastic however- we felt very rushed- our entrees arrived within 10 minutes of ordering and once we said no dessert our check arrived instantly- we still had 1/2 bottle of wine to finish-
The food was very good. The hostess was quite rude. We got there on time for our reservation. She immediately sent us to the bar and wouldn't seat us at our table for four until our friends arrived. There was no space at the bar and it was located next to a pianist, sitting at a grand piano, so the noise level was deafening. We kept having to reposition ourselves to get out of the way of waiters and other people waiting at the bar. So, we politely asked hostess to let us go to our table and she refused. Once seated, we asked the waiter for fried zucchini to share before we ordered our meals. Strangely, he said he had to put the entire food order in at once or it would take an hour to get our food. He then changed his mind and brought us the zucchini. I would say the food was delicious but it was so loud, my voice was hoarse by the time we left.
Excellent choices from the superb menu! Had the best oysters in the US, Wellfleats, and the perfectly prepared salmon ! My wife had the rollitini as an appetizer and followed it up with a past dish of penne Ala Vodka! Great food and great wine!
If you want good Italian food in a lovely warm environment with great service, this is the place for you. Polpo has all the traditional Italian appetizers and lots of selections of pasta and main courses. Save room for desert as they have tartufo and the most delicious napoleon I have ever tasted.
I ordered 4 appetizers for my meal.... Each one was absolutely amazing. The escargot and the shrimp francais was the best I've had. Oysters were phenomenal and the seafood salad was incredible. Staff was friendly and efficient. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants.
Had a good time, used to come a lot growing up in Greenwich, however after this most recent experience I don't believe I'd be returning. I forgot to get a copy of the bill so that I could expense it, when I contacted the restaurant I was connected with a nasty woman named Vanessa who berated me when I asked about getting a copy. She told me that it would take up to two weeks to contact me about the bill, if they decided to at all. They've obviously lost their touch in several departments, as seen by the fact that the restaurant was never more than a quarter full the entire night.
Four of us were nearly overwhelmed by the range of choices on the menu. We had salads, soups, desserts and mains, all of supreme quality. We were especially thrilled with the grilled veal chop; superb! Thick, juicy and with a sage butter sauce that was divine. Our server, Peter, was delightful and efficient, and had extensive knowledge about wine. We tried the house Sauvignon Blanc, which came from a region adjacent to Sancerre, but didn't bear the "Sancerre premium." Another good thing: it's open 7 days a week, so we resolved the "nowhere to go on Monday" dilemma.
Polpo is one of our “go to” places and once again it did not disappoint. Wonderful, fresh food from delicious greens to top quality fish perfectly cooked. Not inexpensive, but the value of an exceptional experience always shines through at Polpo.
nice people work here , definitely better than in the city

Always great food, very pleasant service, wasn't always the case in the past. Polpo is just a safe bet and "a nice home" when it comes to top notch Italian food in Greenwich!

We celebrated a birthday at Polpo last night and overall, it was a wonderful experience ! We received great advice from the staff on several appetizer choices to include their famous Polpo, escargo and baked clams then the Bronzino perfectly cooked and deboned along with a Boulebais second Entree. The food was delicious ! Also, we were seated exactly where we requested to sit in the lively piano area where the music was at a perfect level for enjoyment and ability to still hear conversation. We had birthday singing from the staff and a perfect desert with a candle . Polpo is always a 5 star experience !
We are regulars at Polpo -Our go-to local restaurant in Greenwich; best for for meeting friends at the bar while listening to live piano music, dinner specials are Great.....especially my favorite, their sautéd calves liver smothered in onions and bacon. Yum! We just keep on going back!
Wonderful bar! Live piano player. Everyone sings. I've been there before and had a wonderful time overall. The food is always terrific. However, last night, my friend order 1/2 order of pasta that was swimming in oil, she sent it back. Then she ordered crème brûlée but when they served the dessert that's when they informed her they were out of brûlée so they were giving her a napoleon for free (maybe they could have asked if there was something else on the menu she would like). Last night was an off night for service. It was clear our waitress was not interested in serving us. When I got my car from the valet it seemed they had left my windows open and my car was crawling in bugs on the drive home. Most likely will not return. I did high tip the waitress hoping that would cheer her up! Sometimes we just need a little love.
They rushed us to order food. There wasn't a table available even though we had a reservation. The hostess was rude and had a bad attitude. But everyone was super nice as the bill came! Food was great!
Polpo is worth the drive- by far, the BEST Italian food ( except for their sister restaurant, Il Leone) in the area. They have an extensive menu of specials, meats, fish and pasta (all homemade), and every preparation, sauce, garnish and herb is carefully chosen. Don't forget dessert- equally outstanding and not an after thought as with some restaurants. Portions are very generous for sharing, so go with a group so you can try more choices! Plan for an outdoor evening if possible- they have lots of tables and an awning, should it sprinkle. They do delivery and perhaps that is why they are delighted to send you home with leftovers if you cannot finish your entree. The patrons are equaling amazing- people- watching is a must and many are friendly and fun.
