I had been to chesters quite a long time ago in new london and then shortly after moving to the groton location. This last visit, over $131 later, I was sadly disappointed. No smoke ring on brisket or ribs. Meat was dry as if it had been hot held for too long or reheated (picked up order up on a Saturday just after 12pm) the sides were....ok. the collards were very vinegary (I expect some but it was alot) the peach cobbler was 90 percent topping and I'm being generous giving 10% to the apparent 3 or 4 slices of thin slices peaches on the bottom. Stringy sweet potatoes. I just remembered it as being so more more and higher quality then what I got. I'm gonna pray it was an off day and might......might....try again in the future. But...I was bummed out.

Gave the place a try out of nostalgia for the good old days back in 2013 Chesters old owners served the BEST DAM BBQ ever and had my small wedding anniversary party there so HOPED it still was good food.
NOPE! Dry as F#%%! I’m a certified cook and can tell hot holding food practices ( which by the way drys food out keeping foods in a hot holding unit) and at the price I paid for 2 Texas trinity’s $74.00 with tip (which I would take back if I could). How ANYONE can give 5 stars ?, cornbread was burned and so dry I started choking and had to guzzle half a glass of water, and sausage was meh. Brisket and ribs WOULD have been just good not bad ( very mild seasoning to point doesn’t do bbq meat’s justice) if they weren’t so dam dry from sitting in that holding unit! Got the brisket baked beans, husband got regular baked beans and ?, off putting taste, think it had tomato base in, (which soo shouldn’t have any.) Either way, beans sauce was yuck with the off putting taste.
This place is a poor lmatation for a good bbq place, will go to Nobles BBQ in Mystic, CT next time because THEY actually give tender DELICIOUS BBQ worth THAT price!

Parking: It’s a shopping plaza

Wheelchair accessibility: Door’s big enough, sidewalks low to parking lot with lip curved to meet parking lot

I've traveled all over the country, sampling BBQ from just about everywhere, and I have to say, Chester's BBQ is hands down the best you'll find in Connecticut or maybe even this side of the Mississippi! They've absolutely nailed it! Excellent food and service.

How are people giving this place 5 star reviews? The quality is so bad for that price point. 25 dollars for a combo with no drink! More if you want brisket. Over 35 dollars for a combo meal, a small drink and a slice of pie.

9 years ago this place was so good. Now??
Chicken was horribly dry and not pulled but in chunks, the sausage tastes like low quality hotdogs theres a very cheap flavor to them, cornbread is bland, peach sauce watery and bland, sides were so horrible they went into the trash its just cabbage and potato’s swimming in mayo. It used to be vinegar based. Pecan pie isn’t what it used to be either. For 35 dollars I’m pissed!

This place was once wonderful. Not anymore. Will never return- you are better off walking across the plaza buying a rotisserie chicken, boxed mac n cheese and bbq sauce.

Small portions and very expensive. Pulled pork tasted of straight vinegar

Had the pulled pork with the South Carolina sauce it was excellent, especially when I put the coleslaw on top of it. My wife had a chili and that was also excellent a lot of smoked meat and a very rich taste, but just the right amount of sweetness.

If I give this place no stars I would. If you eat here, it’s safe to assume you have no taste buds. Sad that I even spent my hard earned money on this sub-par food & threw it out.

My fiancé and I went here because we were craving bbq and we weren’t disappointed! He ordered ribs with two sides and I had pulled chicken with two sides. Meats had great flavor, didn’t need our dipping sauces. And the rice and beans was some of the best I’ve ever had! Workers were great and food came out quick. This place is a must if you haven’t already been. We will be back!
