I had been to chesters quite a long time ago in new london and then shortly after moving to the groton location. This last visit, over $131 later, I was sadly disappointed. No smoke ring on brisket or ribs. Meat was dry as if it had been hot held for too long or reheated (picked up order up on a Saturday just after 12pm) the sides were....ok. the collards were very vinegary (I expect some but it was alot) the peach cobbler was 90 percent topping and I'm being generous giving...
I've traveled all over the country, sampling BBQ from just about everywhere, and I have to say, Chester's BBQ is hands down the best you'll find in Connecticut or maybe even this side of the Mississippi! They've absolutely nailed it! Excellent food and service.
Had the pulled pork with the South Carolina sauce it was excellent, especially when I put the coleslaw on top of it. My wife had a chili and that was also excellent a lot of smoked meat and a very rich taste, but just the right amount of sweetness.
