I recently arranged a surprise anniversary breakfast for guests staying at the Mystic Marriott Hotel & Spa, and the experience with Helmsman Kitchen was simply wonderful. From the very beginning, Rafael was incredibly helpful in taking my order and ensuring every detail was just right. The breakfast arrived beautifully presented, and the food was absolutely delicious. Arrived in town and craving a good chowder. While here we also ordered the crab cakes and grilled swordfish. Done to perfection with excellent seasoning. Heirloom tomato and watermelon salad was a great starter. This hotel restaurant did not disappoint.

This was once called Octagon. The Helmsman is beautiful and wonderful seating. Anything for the adventurous pallet is on the menu. Lovely place to eat and get some drinks.

I'm going to start off by saying, the kitchen ran into some issues the night we came here, but our server, Olivia, made up for it! I've been in the industry for the past 20 years and she was, by far, one of the best servers I think I have ever had. She was apologetic and fun. She made sure we didn't need anything while they dealt with kitchen issues. To be honest, she was way more impressive, apologetic and willing to help than the manager on duty. She was just an absolute delight and I will absolutely give this place another chance solely because of her!

Good food, well prepared, and presented well. The service was courteous, prompt, and attentive without hovering. Our server and bartender Yuleika was excellent. She made a tasty Manhatten. The bar needs to get large cubes instead of the chopped ice.
I had the braised short ribs, which were delicious and cooked perfectly. Rib portion could have been a little larger. Sides while tasty were not memorable.
I will return when I am back in the area.

Amazing I am going to start with how long we had to wait guess what ,0 minutes! Of course it wasn’t a popular time to eat dinner cause we came at 8:00pm and it was Easter. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The mashed potato purée was a delight. I would recommend to go here if you’re just going on an anniversary, date or even a calm celebration! Not Cheap but definitely worth the price!

My husband and I decided to take a 4 day mid-winter break at the Mystic Marriott Hotel and Spa. We were warmly welcomed at the hotel Friday evening, and after unpacking we wandered down to the Helmsman Restaurant. It happened to be Valentines Day, and the restaurant was humming. Even though we did not have a reservation, Aalyah found a table for us and thus began a most delightful comfortable weekend. The meals at the Helmsman are well thought out and perfectly executed. Whether we had a dinner of appetizers or chose an entree from the menu, we were never disappointed. The entire Helmsman staff treated us as family. My husband booked a reservation for us weeks ago. When we got there we had to make a line for fifteen minutes just for them to tell us we had to wait until a table became available. The whole point of making a reservation is to get a table. We drove over an hour to be told we could cancel. Very disappointing. Will never come here again and will tell others not to bother coming and getting awful service.
I had the pleasure of visiting my favorite restaurant recently, and I just had to take a moment to highlight the outstanding service I received from Yuleika, Not only is she a master behind the bar, but her attention to detail and friendly demeanor made the evening even more memorable.
Her Cosmopolitan and espresso Martini is simply perfection! Every sip is balanced and refreshing, with just the right amount of sweetness and a crisp finish. It’s the best I’ve ever had, and she makes it with such precision—it’s clear she knows her craft inside and out.
As always, I paired my cosmopolitan with the restaurant’s incredible arugula salad. The fresh, vibrant flavors complement each other beautifully, and it’s quickly become my go-to dish.
The combination of Yuleika’s top-tier bartending skills and the delicious menu items makes me wanting to come back. I’ll definitely be back again soon for more great drinks and that irresistible salad!

Reservations for New years Eve. We went with the pre-fix option. Our seating was not great. Service was good until the end. My main meal was the duck option. It was less than med and medium rare. It was black and blue and couldn't eat a third of duck breasts. The risotto that came with it was slightly grainy (undercooked, in my opinion), but I didn't have a difficult time eating it. I think our waitress knew we weren't happy with my dish, and it kinda felt like she avoided us. She didn't charge us for our drinks we ordered outside of the pre fix, which we are grateful for. The soup and shrimp cocktail were good. I lost the love of taking photos of my food when dessert came. I canceled future reservations for this establishment.

Food was okay, not spectacular. Cocktails mediocre. Service was terrible. Our waitress barely smiled, menus were left in the middle of our table the entire meal rather than being taken away once we ordered. There is no bread service. Cocktails came in the middle of our entree and we were left with water to drink during our appetizer course. I asked if they could make a spicy margarita with jalapeño infused tequila and was told yes. I received a mediocre margarita with no spice at all...certainly zero jalapeño in it. They waitress never asked us if we wanted a dessert. We will not be back. Very disappointed.
