I still begrudgingly shop here when I’m pressed for time, but like other reviewers, I have noticed that the customer service personnel can be rude and dismissive. Also, autumn activities used to be so sweet and fun here with my daughter, but Bishops has become quite a greedy and aggressive money-grabbing machine which is a big turn-off. So now we go to Lyman Orchards. Even though Bishops is on my way home, more often than not I skip it and go to Big Y instead because their prices are more reasonable, their personnel is friendlier, and they have the courtesy to have an indoor, heated and clean restroom which is extra important when you have children. If Bishops were to attend to these shortcomings, I would love to become a regular customer again.
Usually buy all of our Cider at Clydes and freeze gallons for the winter. This past week I was sick and wanted mulled cider. My husband went to Bishops. It was the worst cider ever. It tasted like it had been store in moldy wood or unclean tank. Something was off. It was never our favorite cider but it was never the worst. Grocery store cider is better!!!
If you want good cider go to Clydes in Mystic or Beardsley in Shelton, in season for great cider!!!
The ice cream is very good. But definitely not worth the wait… and I mean waaaait. Plenty of workers, no excuse. Management issue for sure.
Our experience here was wonderful except for having to wait 30 minutes to get a cider, apple crisp nachos, and a pumpkin pie blitz. We saw at least five people after us get their order while we continued to wait. It was all delicious and I'm assuming it was a blip. I will be coming back at some point to try again!
I would give 0 stars if I could. Never going here again the staff is so rude. I bring my family here at 530 after I get out of work just to take some pictures and they wouldn’t let us in saying they close at 6 even though on the website they say 7, IT WAS 530, AND there were people in the patch and the store. And the staff was getting in my face IN FRONT OF MY KIDS. If you wanna go home that bad find a different job!! Very rude, weird, and unprofessional.
I had a return and the young lady , “ customer service manager “ was extremely rude and not helpful . “ any other grocery store in the country values their good customers and value their loyalty . I will never shop there again ! For a 12 return , they lost my business ( over $ 300 per month! )
Great place bit pricey considering a lot of the items now you can get at any grocery store.
Also the pumpkins thet ship in from out of state, sorry to break the news on that
Very rude staff at pick your own
I would leave a 0 star if I can.
People want to rush their days and give nasty attitudes when Google says 7, they still have children playing but can’t let my kids pick 1 pumpkin. And technically since they where’s still open for 7 minutes I should have been allowed in.
Then need to be more clear on time
I have 4 kids crying now
Thanks bishops
Not all parents can come early!!!
Bishops has the worst customer service department my husband and I have ever experienced in any market or high end grocery store ! The “ customer service female manager was totally rude when attempting to return 2 items with receipts . I also showed her all my receipts for the last month totally over 500 dollars We recently moved to Branford and was looking forward to a positive shopping experience. In addition , , many of their items , ie organic chicken had sell by dates four days past the sell date ! Our new neighbors have shared their negative experiences ! I was a vice president of customer service at a large prominent hospital system and was shocked at this rude behavior ! We will never return to Bishops !

We had a great family day at Bishop's yesterday. It has been a Columbus Day tradition to go pumpkin picking since our kids were little and now we are going with the grandkids.
After you eat the apple here, then you will realize what's called a real apple. It really is a great farm with amazing staff. The kids' activity area is a very good addition; my kids really enjoyed it and didn't want to leave. Thanks to all the staff for your wonderful support. I would visit often.
Glad my daughter had fun but definitely not worth having parents pay to stand there and observe. Was confronted by a staff member who was a straight B. Wanted me to leave my child to go with her to pay for “extra apples”. She asked to see my ticket after she was the one who had to look up my reference code at the prepurchase booth when I got there bc I never received an email yet had waivers and everything filled out which I was able to show them. She was rude as hell and basically followed me. We hadn’t paid for our pumpkins yet (wasn’t required until we went in the Big Red Barn) as we wanted to get the kids to activities before it was too late. The slide and train were both down. As an adult very underwhelmed as I went here and had a different experience as a kid. Luckily my daughter had fun, we got a ton of photos, but next time we’ll do Lyman Orchard where there’s no money grabbing.
Great apples, cider and baked goods. Produce of the highest quality.
I came to the orchard for years. I relocated south and still made sure to come north just to visit Bishop’s for our annual apple picking. Boy were we disappointed. It has become super commercialized and lacks the family fun charm it once possessed. We used to be able to park and picnic. Now parking is a hassle, you wait on a super long line to pre purchase a bag to pick apples. A “large” bag was $45 which was maybe 40 apples. It would be cheaper getting them in your own grocery. Plus there is now an entrance fee. To do additional activities costs more money. Long lines and high prices. The grocery prices have also gone up and everything had soy which was super limiting.
