This review is a part of my quest of visiting all CT breweries. I met Counter Weight numerous times during beer festivals, but never understood their appeal to the public. It was until I visited the brewery.
First things first, the brewery occupies a big building and has an enormous space. The first floor is sectioned into 3 rooms, allowing for some privacy should you plan any events. There's also a patio, where the majority during our visit were the dog owners, and a 21+ game zone with some field games. They also have space on the second floor, but I did not go there. The brewery partnered with Ritual Pizza as their kitchen. We ordered a pizza and chicken tenders, and everything was delicious. The whole place was packed on Saturday evening.
Now, for the beers. This brewery specializes in 2 directions: traditional European beers and IPAs. As I'm not a big fan of IPAs, I was focused on the European styles during my visit. You cannot order beer flights here, but they can provide a short pour (10oz) of any beer with a limit of one short pour at a time. I tried many of Counter Weight beers before, but still their lineup was almost completely new to me, so my guess is that the beers are rotated often. I was able to try 5 beers during my visit. My absolute favorite was Grodziskie - a traditional 3.5% smoked wheat beer, which is incredibly hard to find in CT. But in general, I loved everything I had - Vienna Lager was rich in taste, Ein Helles was a direct hit in the style, and so on.
I'm pretty impressed by the quality of the beers produced here. If you're a fan of European beers, this should be a stop on your journey.
Was there for a personal event. Can't comment on prices as all inclusive. Great variety of brews. Food was far far better than most. Staff was great. Space was large and clean and well set up. Would recommend.
The Street Korn pizza is out of control. Ridiculous. Mad, even.
You HAVE to try it. 12/10 chef's kissies.
Cool place, good beers, and burgers
So, I have to be honest I don’t drink. So I can’t really speak on the beer. I came here specifically because of the gluten free pizza.
I’ve tried so many different gluten free pizzas all around the state. My wife is GF. I belong to a Facebook group that recommends different spots throughout the state.
I had heard this was the spot.
Ordered two pies, wife got a cider and I got a soda.
Let me tell you, this is hands down the best gluten free pizza I’ve had the pleasure of eating. It was so good that I had to personally thank the team that was making the pizzas.
I’m going to highly recommend this place solely on the GF pies. I can’t express it enough how difficult it’s been to find one as good as this.
Great job to the team busting out these pies on a Friday night!
Come for the beer and free movie nights, stay for Ritual Pizza and burgers
Great brewery in a great space with good food options, music, and events. Everything they produce is good - interesting that they are producing more lagers and pilsners than IPAs now, but after tasting a pilsner, lager, and IPA on my last visit I can understand why.
The brewer and founder is well known for creating Ghandi-Bot (now G-Bot) and Fuzzy Yellow Ducks for New England Brewing, still among their best sellers.
Counter Weight's flagship is Headway, an IPA, and they make great IPAs as well. Slumbering Behemoth is an excellent stout. They haven't reinstalled their coolship, apparently, but their spontaneous brew was among the best in CT.
Love your beer, love the venue . I hate your music, you had the UNCONN game on, but you had Indian Music on !! Turn up the volume I. The TVs
Great beers. Always a good selection of styles.
Nice building with an extensive beer menu. Beer was ok but I should have tried their flagship to rate them fairly. My issue was with the staff. Unfriendly bartenders who just ruined the vibe. We left without finishing our beers. Total disappointment.

Very large place with multiple rooms and floors to find a spot. There are different beers depending on which floor you are on. We brought our own food from a bbq place and enjoyed it with a few beers from here. Not an IPA person, but there was plenty of other options to choose from. Would love to see more stout options! They do have an in house food option and the food looked pretty good from what we saw. We will certainly be back in the future.
Best Beer period. The Flagship Headway should be considered best IPA in the US. Smoothest IPA in the Northeast possibly best in the Country. Love how you can't get it at the Brewery.
Great beers. Good atmosphere. Friendly and helpful staff. Plus now they have Ritual Pizza on-site!
Great atmosphere, great drinks!
I loved how spacious this brewery is! Allot of the time when brewerys are that busy it takes a while to get served and is crowded. However that is not the case here! It is so spacious especially with the second floor that also has a small bar! Great idea! I wasn't the biggest fan of their sour but my bf liked the IPA he got
