My Jamaican coworkers swear by this place and from my take out experiences, the food has been delicious. You're not going to get de-boned Jamaican food here. I can't see myself enjoying Jamaican food any other way besides with the bone. Some times things are simply better with the bone intact. I had my typical j*** chicken, the meat was tender and fresh. MY ONLY complaint was that I didn't ask for the hot j*** sauce. Seriously what was I thinking?? I know I can handle the hot j*** sauce but for some reason it didn't dawn on me to ask for the hot sauce. If you like a little kick to your food get the hot sauce.

I've been going to Channer's for years for some fine, authentic West Indian food - Food is freshly made, daily, and portions are worth the price you're paying. Owner is very personable and generally around to greet you with a warm smile! Fried chicken with rice and peas and the stew shrimp with rice and peas are my favorite dishes! When I'm craving for a good, rightly seasoned and spiced chicken soup, Channer's has the best one in town! This isn't a sit-down type of restaurant; best to pick up and if you have a large order, call it in first so you don't have to spend more time than necessary waiting around at the restaurant (keep reading .. you'll see why). Do lock your car doors and run in/out; the area isn't the best, especially late in the evening (I lived in Hartford for 3-4 yrs and I'm still "running"). I'm not sure what time they close - I once asked the owner and he said; "When the last customer leaves or when the food is all gone" ... Epic!

This was my first try at Caribbean food and I am amazed. I walk into the restaurant around lunch time and ask them for something spicy. The lady at the counter recommends me rice/beans + curry goat. I had it to go and it was totally worth the price. It was delicious just like a good home made food. The only reason I give this place a 4 star is because there really is no place to sit down and eat there even though it is named a "restaurant". It is basically a take out place.
