I love this place but went today and the car wasn't here. Is it the holiday or is it gone for good?

I came with high expectations after reading it's better than Halal Guys since they are temporarily closed I decided to try a new place. I had the Chicken Over Rice with white sauce. It's decent but not as good as Halal Guys. It's pretty bland but nonetheless it was still a good quick lunch if your around the area or a student near by. Affordable prices for a platter and soda/drink. Respect the business.

The best halal cart food I've ever had, including all the ones I've had in NYC. The fish over rice is my go to. Friendly service and always delicious.

Just wanted to update my review that this cart is still open and running until 3:30 m-f. Food is just as delicious and pretty much the only place I've found to get authentic halal chicken and rice like the carts in nyc

Good food if you have it occasionally. Not suitable for daily consumption.

Just wanted to share how the Halal Cart does NOT disappoint and is always out in State House Square during the week for lunch. It could be during a snow storm, after a huge snow, any time. I needed a Halal Cart fix before I headed out for the holidays and there was a snow storm going on at the time and I risked going outside to see if they were there, and YES THEY WERE! The line wasn't long because it was snowing freezing rain outside, but they were there smiles and cooking food. Lamb over rice is my go to and their white sauce is to DIE for. It is not like The Halal Guys (chain) white sauce, it's 10000 times better. SO YUM.

This is probably the best food truck you will see at the State House. The only thing wrong is that they only accept cash, other than that food is great. Always a huge line at lunchtime so you know people enjoy their food. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for good food.

This is your classic downtown halal gyro cart. Native to New York these carts have found a home in almost every major city in the United States of America. New York Gyro serves the Hartford area as one of the only, if not the only, halal gyro cart in the entire Central Connecticut area. There are other restaurants where you can buy and dine on gyro, but this is the only one on small non-drivable wheels. And let's be honest, there is a specialness to buying from a cart. The quintessential cart serves street food that adds another level of flavor that is quite hard to find anywhere under a roof. New York Gyro does not disappoint. They offer sandwiches and platters over rice or salad. I recommend trying their chicken and lamb gyro platter over rice. The white sauce hits the spot and is on the more tangy side. The platter includes a drink for $8. The portion is large and is hard to beat for the price and taste. Service is quick and the food is always satisfying. Street parking can be found nearby. Just make sure to bring cash!

This cart has consistently tasty food. I usually get the platter with half chicken and half falafel and it's hard to beat it as a deal for $8! And you even get a drink included for that price! They are cash only, though, so don't be caught lunchless with only plastic payments.
