Our first time back at Max Downtown in years. I was disappointed. The staff were very friendly however everything we ate (except the dessert) was so very salty. I expect more refined cooking considering the long history of Max Downtown.

Excellent service, Excellent food and a steak house atmosphere. Pricey but when you put it all together it was definitely worth the price. We will be back!! And that is the ultimate complement.

Food was very good as always. Even though we went on Saturday night, we ordered a steak entree and a Cod Special which they came back 10 minutes later to tell is they were out of. Then when our dinners came, they brought the wrong seafood entree for my Wife. 15 minutes later, her corrected dish came out, but I had already finished most of my dinner at that point. We then ordered 2 desserts. 10 minutes later, out came the chocolate cake. Once again, the server forgot to put in my blueberry dessert order. Even though we were only 2 people, maybe they need to write down the Order to avoid the multiple mistakes.

First timer to Max Downtown and we were not disappointed. Seated quickly with our reservation into a nice lively dining room. Our server, Trina, was superb in everyway including her excellent attentiveness, politeness and pleasant outgoing personality. Other staff that assisted Trina were spot on too. Our food was delicious which included soup of the day, Filet Mignon and Shrimp Pasta entrees. If you have room, definitely order the Baked Alaska for dessert as almost everyone got one to share. Highly recommend Max Downtown if you are in Hartford area.

My only problem was the burger. I know burgers can be messy but I took one bite the sauces dripped all over my dress and the burger basically fell apart. I ended up having to eat it with a knife and fork which is taking away from the flavor of all the ingredients in a bite. Suggestion..make your patties flatter and use a more durable bun so it will easier to eat.

I went to this restaurant for the first time last month. Food and cocktails were delicious, and staff was friendly and professional. One thing happened though that left a bad taste in my mouth - I was overcharged by a bartender and still not sure if it was just a mistake.
I went there with my friend, who is a regular and highly recommended the place to me. We sat at the bar, shared one steak and a couple of appetizers, I had three drinks, she had one. Mostly one bartender was serving us.
I was going to put my card towards the total bill, and settle difference with my friend later. I gave my card to that bartender before he gave me a final bill (I know, it's a mistake), and when he returned the check with only the total, the total sum seemed much higher than I expected. I asked him for the detailed bill so we know how to split this check later, and he TOOK A NAPKIN AND CALCULATED only my friend's share (which was correct), but never printed out detailed check.
My half of the bill still seemed very high, and I never saw the breakdown, at this point our bartender disappeared, and I had to ask another bartender AGAIN to print out detailed bill for our dinner, which they were able to do really fast. A WHOLE $60 STEAK THAT WE NEVER ORDERED WAS ON THE BILL. Thankfully the rest of the team was very helpful, and were able to remove the steak and reprint the new bill.
If it was a mistake, I don't understand how it could be missed by the bartender who was serving us all night, knew we are sharing one steak (we asked him if they are large enough to share and they really are), and looked through the bill to write down my friend's share instead of just printing out itemized bill.
I love eating out in new places and do it regularly, but I never had it happen to me to that extent. Maybe a drink or two might show up on a bill by mistake, but never the whole $60 steak. I will probably not come back to this place, and would recommend to check your final itemized bill at all times, at any place.
I'm really thankful to the rest of the team who were able to settle this quick, hopefully I won't be charged the full amount of the wrong bill.

My friend had the short ribs and I had the bolognese with fresh shells. The food was wonderful, our service was excellent, and the ambiance was perfect. They also got us out in time to see the show. Great dinner out.

Perfect evening! The food was exceptional. Prices are reasonable compared to other high-end restaurants. Waitress was friendly and very mindful. Noise level was just right where you can hear each other.
Great atmosphere and enjoyed the food. Service was very friendly. I am gluten and dairy free and they were more than willing to accommodate.

I loved going to Max Downtown and eating at the bar. I miss the days of Scott and Sam. I miss the attentiveness, professionalism and class. I was surprised to have to ask for menus, silverware, water (and refills) and another drink. My husband says it our last time. ☹️

We had a great experience here. Adriana and Peter met us with smiles at the front. We were sat with Jason who was able to make recommendations when we couldn't decide and made our night very enjoyable. I also saw an old friend, Rumi who made sure we were enjoying everything. I have only been here twice and will certainly be returning. The food was great and the service was top notch
