A friend and I were in the area for poker and looking for somewhere great to eat before playing. We came across The Salty Heifer and were game to give it a try because of the name alone - before reading any reviews. Thankfully, we weren't disappointed. Yesterday afternoon, I had the best burger ever (The Phoenix Rising Burger); so much so that we returned again this morning to repeat that meal. So, for the first time ever in my life, I'm having a burger for breakfast. If you're looking for great food, energy / vibes and a really cool space to enjoy it all, then The Salty Heifer is the where you want to come.

We ordered French toast and home fries today. The French toast was just wet bread. There was a small amount of white egg on a piece of the toast. It tasted like soggy bread. The home fries were oil soaked and deep fried to a crisp. Very disappointing. I would never allow food to leave the kitchen like this.

Cap’n Crunch or home fries….these are the worst things I’ve ever seen come out of a kitchen. Hard as a rock and taste like grease.

I had the Phoenix Burger. You can tell that patty was hand cut and homemade. The chorizo was amazing on it. Pancakes don't even need syrup, it's so good already. The food came very quick.

Great little neighborhood spot for breakfast. Pancakes were fluffy and not too sweet. Omelette was well stuffed. Sausage had a nice spice. You won’t regret stopping in for a straightforward meal.

Very, very disappointing! Before the new owners, this was our go to breakfast place whenever we were in the area. We stopped in to get take out breakfast sandwiches. Bacon, egg (1 egg) and cheese was $8.00. We asked for an extra egg and it was $1.00 extra! That made the cost $9.00 for a breakfast sandwich!!! And it wasn't on a regular hard roll. It was a smaller than usual roll!!! We will not go back!

I really hate leaving reviews but I felt the reviews I read didn’t sum up to our experience. We walked in, no one greeted us or even told us to sit wherever we wanted. I had to ask the waitress (who saw us walk in). We sat down, ordered drinks, then no one came back! The table next to us was seated 15 mins after us and their orders were taken before ours was even taken. They got their food before us too. We waited patiently, but no one came back for refills or anything. I feel bad, because the waitress was over run by tables. She had no help. The other waitress on the other side was just talking, and this poor girl was running laps around the place. I wanted to help her. By the time we got our food, it was luke warm. My husband’s bacon and sausage tasted reheated or microwaved, and we waiting a half hr for it. I really wanted to love this place, and maybe it was just a bad day.

The nicest lunch experience I have had since I moved here 18 months ago! This renewed my faith in Ledyard, since experiencing a haggle of harridans on Facebook and being constantly criticized and harassed in public meetings after I stood up for students who were disrespected by a BOE member or tried to improve the quality of life of the oppressed tenants at the Ledyard Manor. So I wearily took a seat at this cozy restaurant and am immediately greeted by friendly welcoming people!I began with a cup of delicious homemade chicken soup. It was wonderful. I then had a delicious turkey club followed by unexpected eggnog ice cream! Most importantly to me was the ultra-triendly chat with everyone of all ages covering topics from politics to knee surgery to the impending doom of Mt. Decatur. Minus nastiness. Minus rancor.Color me shocked and amazed.Best lunch in 18 months.
Some of the best omelets I ever
