Sat down for 1st experience at this highly recommended restaurant. Our waitress Johanna must have been having a horrible night as No Smile, No Greeting and very quiet - no engagement at all. Placed our order, asked for bread - she said no problem - dinner arrived in less than 10 minutes - still no bread - had to remind her once again. She never came back to ask us if we needed anything or how was our meal. We needed to have our water glasses replenished and couldn’t find her. Service was extremely poor and not attentive.
Better service at the local dinner - pass on this place - not worth the engagement.

So so disappointed!! Obviously nothing like the chef Silvio who owned and cooked here some time ago. Italian pasta should not be smothered in gooey melted cheese!!! That’s an American bastardization!! This gnocchi dish was supposed to have “Sunday sauce”!! Please don’t advertise as Sunday sauce!! Instead it had very limited pinkish sauce. And so much melted cheese that one could not get at the gnocchi!!! Come on!!
The single side of a meatball was pretty good as was the fried calamari. Fried artichokes very heavy batter. Not returning anytime soon.

Missed happy hours by 2 minutes which has amazing half price apps. Ordered large sandwich. Grilled chicken w/ balsamic vinagrette. Festive place during the holidays.

First, the service is always wonderful. We felt so welcomed by and comfortable with our server. We ate outside this time, which we really enjoy since Madison is a lovely town. The food is consistently good (we’ve eaten here many times) and the drinks are very tasty - try the chocolate espresso martini for a treat.
We spent a few days on the shore and one night we went to Cafe Allegre for dinner. We made a reservation as we wanted to sit in the front bar room which is less formal than the main dining room in the back. We had a very pleasant dinner. Food was great. Atmosphere delightful and good attentive service.
We have been here before and will definitely go again.

If you like really good food with a classy atmosphere, real silver and linen tablecloths and napkins - this is your spot. You won't find a better pour of wine anywhere - 12 OZ. The prices are very reasonable, and the service is great. Best veal parm around. Rich is a great server and person, and he always treats us well. If I could change one thing, it would be the music. The crazy Jazz has to go. It's not conducive for a relaxing night at dinner. I would recommend some nice soft piano music or maybe some Sinatra and Bennet. Other than that, IT IS THE BEST.
I hate to leave a bad review, but I must. Going by other reviews, my husband and I decided to give it a try. OMG. The food was inedible. The waiter (who as very nice) brought us some bread. You expect good bread in an Italian restaurant, but it was dry and the butter (in packets) was frozen. Then came the Cesar salads; soggy lettuce soaked in “dressing” . It’s so easy to serve 3 crisp Romain lettuce leaves with dressing, but this was small soggy pieces of lettuce. Couldn’t eat it. We ordered Artichokes, and they served breaded artichoke pieces that tasted like frozen fast food. Then came our pasta dishes; horrible.
We paid our bill $116.00 and left an 18% tip along with a note saying that the food was inedible. DO BETTER!!

I love the relaxing but sophisticated atmosphere at Allegre. I come often. Tonight I had an exceptionally tender and delicious Eggplant Parm with a really nice basic Chianti. Very nice!

We have been coming to the area for years to visit our son. We have passed by often and decided to finally give it a try. It was definitely some of the worst food I have ever been served. How they have stayed in existence for so long is beyond understanding.
