Amazing food! Great specials. Love the new staff! Check it out! Really great owners who care about the community and their staff!
Horrible owner, cares more about ogling women than keeping his business going strong and employees even remotely close to happy. There's a reason the kitchen is like a revolving door when it comes to cooks, and it's not because 'nobody wants to work', it's because nobody wants to work for YOU.
I'll give them the second star because they were short-staffed and had an all-new kitchen crew but sorry, you have one chance to impress new customers. In Madison, almost all the restaurants close at 9, so we chose to have dinner/drinks at Moxie since they close at 10 and we didn't want to rush. But the cocktails and entrees we read about on Yelp sounded really interesting! Regrets.... We arrived to a 30% filled place and still had to wait almost 10 minutes to be seated. Upon sitting, the host told us they were out of the Chicken Sandwich. We were given menus and as we began perusing, we noticed half the items we saw online were on that menu. We really wanted to leave and at that point couldn't because everything else was closed by then. So we had to make do. We ordered the Chupacabra, which was excellent. It's basically a spicy mezcal margarita made with chilis instead of jalapeno. Since we don't eat mammals or dairy, there was not much for us to choose from. We had been looking forward to a couple of the fish entrees. We ordered the Buffalo Cauliflower, which was decent, but arrived with cheese on it, which we had asked to remove so they had to redo it. Sauce was extremely strong. I ordered the Tuna appetizer, which was very good. My friend ordered the veggie burger and malt fries. She said the burger was just too overcome with spicy sauce and the malt fries just tasted like regular fries. We had to wait a good 30 minutes for our food. But it could have been worse. Unfortunately, for the people next to us, it was. We couldn't help but overhear, considering our tables were so close together we may as well have been sitting together, separated by a 6-inch wide planter. The hilarious part is we thought they were just there for a drink for about an hour, until their server asked if they would like the check. One of them replied by saying "actually, we would like our food that we ordered an hour ago". The server, flustered, apologized profusely and several minutes later came out with their food. They were obviously irritated beyond repair. After eating only a few bites, decided to ask for their check. The server gave them the wrong one. After paying the correct one, they asked to see the manager, who came over immediately. She also apologized profusely after hearing their experience, and offered them a gift card. They politely declined and reiterated (in a very soft-spoken and kind way) how unacceptable their experience was, and the manager simply apologized a few more times and left. The saving grace - the OWNER happened to overhear this entire thing and approached their table next. Although, in my opinion, his appearance was completely inappropriate (he was wearing a sloppy t-shirt and sweat shorts with sandals but I get it, this is a beach town), he immediately asked for the patrons to explain their experience and then told their server to reverse the charges and gave them their whole bill on the house.
Super disappointed, but have come to expect that with most restaurants in CT. The food was mediocre at best, though the waitress did say they switched to a new chef.. still, for the price the food should be good at minimum. I would be willing to try again in a few months simce this is usually a great place, but would not recommend at this time.
Fun night having good food, great cocktails and joining trivia night! The service was good. The only thing that kept it from being spot on is that when my husband asked for a glass of Pinot Noir, he was told that they had run out. Maybe it's due to a sourcing issue, but they are 3 doors down from a wine shop!
Food was very good! Service was a little slow and lackluster, but it seemed like the restaurant may have been understaffed, so we didn't mind that. Our main issue was the music was extremely loud and techno-ish club music blaring at 6PM on a Tuesday. It did not fit with the vibe of the restaurant, and our party could not hear each other speak, despite asking our server to turn down the music.
We sat out in the deck area and had to kill quite a few ants. Server messed up order of our wings to go vs a starter. We will try next time. The red snapper and chicken sandwich we had were excellent. So a mixed overall experience first time and look forward to try again.
Loved the Caesar salad :-)
Delicious food, best Po Boy!
Hands down one of the best meals I’ve had at a restaurant in a long time! Menu was scarce but I’ve heard that the smaller the menu, the better the food. Also, best French fries ever!

The salmon & Chicken Sandwich are FULL of flavor. Fries are surprisingly seasoned, to perfection. Sat for service at the bar.Being a mixed gal from New York, I know good food and this kitchen is skilled.Barback was very attentive, as he was the only one to greet us at the bar. Had a great time here.
Nice change of scene. Limited menu was a bit more limited than we anticipated. Noise level really accelerated at the end of our dinner experience, but I think we'll give it another shot again in the future.
Stopped by for Saturday night dinner while at a local B&B. They were short staffed so only part of the.menu was available. I wanted the mussels but they weren’t available so I got the Moxie burger. It was good and the fries were excellent. I had the strawberry rhubarb drink, also good. Tyler was my server and was excellent and attentive. Would go back when in town again
We are so fortunate to have Moxie in downtown Madison. The atmosphere, the service and the quality of food is always excellent. Moxie has a great vibe. If you haven't tried it, I would encourage you to check it out!
Location, ambiance, food and service are all very good. To get an outstanding I just think the menu needs a couple more additions even if it is a wider group of specials. This way its good variety for loyal customers.
