Awesome place to take a step back in time.
Waitresses dressed in uniforms with little caps. Terrific hamburgers,cheeseburgers and wonderful ice cream?

If it were possible, I would give 3.5 stars, but since that's not an option, I went with 4
The (Mostly) Good: The Cheeseburger with the curled up crispy fried cheese was the King of the show, the patty itself was slightly above average, but was well prepared, I also had the onion rings, they were pretty good.I had the Maple Nut Ice Cream, it tasted freezer burnt, I am letting this slide because upon my first attempt to visit this location a few weeks ago, they were closed due to a power failure the day before, thinking the outage may have damaged the Ice Cream.
The Bad: While I enjoy the nostalgic feel of the restaurant, Cash Only is annoying. No menus was also very annoying, the menu boards around the restaurant tend to be cluttered and hard to read, the Ice Cream Board wasn't visible from where I was sitting, the server wasn't very helpful with explaining boards I was having trouble seeing

Two words... "the bernice"
This iconic fried cheese skirt burger is a legend in its own right. They dress up a patty on a open flat top grill and spin sodas the old fashioned way like jerky boys
Its changed up a bit since covid (you gotta asked for the the onions) n the melt on the cheese can be inconsistent (maybe go a lil more doness)
But overall: this place is an experience.
Pros: Bernie baby, the ice cream sundaes w/hit fudge
Cons: Waits can be a min when busy, a lil inconsistent, addictive

Until today, August 4, 2024, I would have given Shady Glen 5 stars. Today I stopped by to buy a quart of their minestrone soup, and when I got home I was dismayed to find NO MEAT whatsoever in the soup. Instead i had a liquidy vegetable soup. I wonder did ownership change or did that recipe change? I also bought a pint of their coleslaw which thankfully was as good as ever.
On August 24, 2024, I went back and ordered a qt of minestrone soup and thankfully, it is back to it's excellent quality..

We stopped by for ice cream and decided on getting fries as the smell was too good to pass up. We each had our own sundae that didn't disappoint. I tried the hot fudge and caramel and it was delicious. The fries were fresh and hot, and the service was great! The atmosphere was similar to a 50's diner and everyone was dressed in the theme as well. Highly recommend visiting this location.
