Recently checked in as I heard a lot of good feedback about Southern Dishes, and I was not disappointed! Food was on point with all the flavor. The yams weren't to sweet and the Mac n cheese was was hitting my soul. Only small let down, the person who took my order put me down for the chopped BBQ but I wanted the ribs. Now I have a valid excuse to eat there again lol. If you choose to order inside, take a peek at them ribs and then you'll know why I MUST go back lol.

The music was overly loud, and the staff, particularly the person at the front, came off as uninterested and quite unwelcoming. I ordered a catfish sandwich and dinner; however, my sandwich bizarrely came without bread—essentially, not a sandwich at all. Plus, the fries I paid for were nowhere to be seen. It’s disappointing because I make an effort to support local businesses and Meriden doesn’t have many seafood options. Unfortunately, this was one of my most underwhelming dining experiences to date, despite the fish itself being tasty. I won’t be returning, preferring instead to drive the extra distance to One Eyed Willy’s, where the service is friendlier and the value is undeniable. Sadly, I cannot recommend this place, a real letdown given my initial excitement.
Solid four stars. This relatively new soul food place is well worth a try.very large portions and very good food.we tried the fried chicken dinners with yams and macaroni and cheese. My husband also tried the fall-off-the-bone beef ribs which he proclaimed "sinful". The corn bread was forgotten with our meals but given to us " to go" as we left. It was some of the best I've ever had. Smooth and almost creamy texture,not grainy at all...just delicious! Unfortunately for me this food is not exactly "health food"...the salt is not good for my MS. But an occasional splurge will surely be on our agenda.the women owners (I'm assuming) were as pleasant,sweet and helpful as possible.we were happy to support this business as we did Steve Ross' Cast Iron Soul in Hamden (which has been closed for a while now). My only criticisms are that the decor is still a bit "unfinished" looking.the orange textured walls are very pretty but maybe a few bold prints on the walls would be a nice touch. And also the name of this restaurant is not all that catchy,clever or even memorable. It just doesn't suit the vibe of this place.

I order the chicken tenders dinner with Mac and cheese, and collard greens.. This is one of the best soul food I ever had and they were very nice, food was seasoned well. About a 20-30 minute wait but totally worth it and banana pudding was outstanding as

Let start with the music. It was so loud you couldn't hear yourself or the server.The food was a little costly, and they gave you a good plate size, but it lack flavors.I really wanted to like it, but it was not working ?
Very delicious! I highly recommend the fried chicken fingers as well as the shrimp. Great honey glazed cornbread with delicious fries. Definitely looking forward to eating here again.
If heaven is cornbread, you have to go to Southern Dishes Seafood and Desserts!!!! Best Mac and Cheese and cornbread I have had in this area in a long time and not to mention the Collard greens. Right next door to OSJL in Meriden. Get your butt there soon!
