Went back in December 2024 — absolutely phenomenal cafe! It’s so unique and the owners are extraordinarily kind!
My friend and I didn’t play games because we were meeting there for tea. You do not need to play games to sit and enjoy the cafe. However, they do give table priority to those who pay to play games, and will kindly ask you to move if there are no available tables for players that just came in.
It’s $10 per person to play board games for the whole day! They have many bookshelves filled with various board games to choose from that are meant for everyone.
Additionally, (please, correct me if I am wrong. It’s been a while since my visit!) I think they have Dungeon and Dragon nights, or something similar.
I’m not celiac, however I am gluten-free. Gluten cross contamination doesn’t affect me. The reason I mention this is because they have delicious gluten-free brownie. When I ordered the brownie, the staff kindly informed me it is not celiac friendly. Which is totally okay! But, i hope my input helps anyone who is celiac or cannot have cross contamination :)
Long story short: this cafe is a rare gem in Connecticut. If you come to visit, or if you are a local, you must go to Back Again Board Game Cafe! You won’t regret it!
Great boardgame cafe. A large variety of boardgames are available and the staff is excellent at recommendations depending on what you're looking for. When not too busy the staff can help with set up and quick start of games. There is a good variety of drinks and snacks available. $10 fee per person for the day to play boardgames or use the space for game activities like D&D, Magic, or other TTRPGs. You can leave to get food or run errands and return. Tables are first come, first serve. Quiet but easy to talk and enjoy. An excellent space.
Best board game cafe in CT! The staff is very helpful when picking out games and the selection is great
I just did a birthday party there for one of my kids. They were so attentive, helpful, and friendly. We can't wait to come back again!
Love this place! Chill atmosphere, friendly staff, respectful and kind players.
Wow this place is great! I met a friend to play MTG for a few hours and the cafe was the perfect location. There is an immense collection of board games to choose from and clean laminate tables to play on in a variety of sizes. There is a full coffee bar with snacks. The decor is a fun mix of D&D, LOTR and fun game signs. The person working was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. I look forward to trying out some of the board games next time.
Really cool place to meet new people or just go with friends, hang out, and play some cards or board games. They have a huge selection of games to choose from and the staff is more than helpful. They have a nice Cafe area with all the basics like coffee, lattes, and snacks. It's only $10 per person and they had a deal for $16 if i remember correctly where you get a drink and a snack along with your day pass. If you like board games, cards, or DND type games, I would definitely recommend checking them out.

The cafe is cozy with a variety drinks that are largely customizable from coffee to tea to sodas. The food is mostly light snacks such as popcorn, pastries and fries. They hold a number of events throughout the week that are welcoming to newcomers and don’t require reservations but with a broad spectrum of games for single to 10+ players for all ages it is a great way to meet people or spend a rainy day.

This is a wonderful place to spend an evening, make some new friends and play board games. They have a huge selection of board games and a diverse schedule for all other games like TRPGs, Poker, Cribbage and so on. If you're a solo player and don't have a group yet, you can easily find it via their Discord channel. Plus you can track there any events you may be interested in. The events can be either drop-in or requiring a sign-up.
Board Game clubs are as good as their community. And the community here is great and welcoming to newcomers. Owners - Jen and Chris - are onsite, and they are always ready to help. There is a good selection of snacks and a coffee/tea bar with tasty options. The menu always expands and tailors to the taste of the crowd.
I really recommend checking this place out if youre into tabletop gaming of any kind.

Went here to play some board games with friends and have some tea and snacks. The service is great, the food and tea was tasty, and the atmosphere is amazing. There are a ton of Hobbit/LotR easter eggs throughout the cafe. They have board games you can play with friends and the game pass to play as many games as you want all day is only $10! Highly recommend stopping and spending a few hours if you are in or around Middletown.
