I've been to Cafe 56 many times for their breakfast over the years, and it's always great. However, I want to RAVE about the take-out dinner I had tonight. During covid, Cafe 56 is offering weekly prefix dinners at extremely reasonable prices and let me tell you they are DIVINE! Tonight's fish was lovely, the shrimp was tender, and it was served with a flavorful array of vegetables and drizzled with a mouth-watering sauce. The cheesy risotto absolutely changed my life! The dessert was a perfect delicate compliment to such a rich dinner.I simply cannot recommend taking advantage of this wonderful and delicious opportunity! The weekly dinners are posted on Cafe 56's facebook page and you email two days before to reserve your meal(s). Bon appetit!
Excellent food! Their home made chips are amazing! Friendly staff and the owner is a sweetheart! Wonderful atmosphere and location!! A++
After paddling a pirogue across the bayou to the shores of Cafe 56, I initially thought I had arrived at the right place at the wrong time because most of the assigned parking spots were taken. On entering I heard Chef Sabrina singing jambalaya, crawfish pie and file gumbo for tonight I am gonna take you on a dining tour of Big Easy. I responded laissez les bons temps rouler, but hold the crawfish pie and file gumbo until me and ma cher a mio return for Mardi Gras. The jambalaya proved to be very good with enough leftovers for an upcoming meal. I did not have to employ the voodoo services of Marie Laveau to encourage Sabrina to also include sides of corn bread and kale salad. The latter was resplendent with slivered almonds and enough blueberries to give even Fats Domino a thrill. Later in the evening under a Yellow Moon and well before the Neville Brothers took stage, we could be found enjoying cups of hot chocolate and beignets paired with a dipping sauce that would have made the proprietors of Cafe Du Monde envious.
This hidden gem is the best breakfast place in Middletown, if not the whole state. The standard menu options are great, but I can't recommend the specials enough. Every bite is just loaded with flavor and you'll want whoever you're with to experience it's as well.
Best breakfast in town! We always order off the specials board and are never disappointed, unless they've already sold out.
Chef/owner Sabrina has re-imagined this restaurant in the wake of covid-19 restrictions. In addition to breakfast and lunch, she now serves takeout dinners of the world for 1 or 2 on Tuesday - Friday nights. The current cost is $15 for 1 and $27.50 for 2 and it is all inclusive. Recent specials have included paella, chicken goulash, petit mignon and sole florentine. The special last night was pepian, one of the 4 national dishes of Guatemala. This was a stew like dish that included pork ribs, beef and assorted vegetables in a delicious sauce made from seeds, nuts, assorted chilis, tomatillos and tomatoes. Also included were bread, long grain rice and slices of tres leches. Amazing! Check out the cafe's facebook page on the weekend for the upcoming week's dinner specials which must be ordered 2 days in advance via email.
I'm surprised not to see any *recent* reviews of Cafe 56 so I'm writing to bring readers up to date. In addition to breakfast and lunch, four times a week (Tues-Fri) Cafe 56 also offers outstanding dinners-to-go. The meals are such a treat! A few weeks ago we took away a dinner of petit filet mignon steaks, roasted potatoes, spinach salad, homemade bread, and chocolate mousse - all made from scratch, and all exquisite. Tonight, "to celebrate independence of all Central America," we will take away "a classic two meat Pepian, a stew-like dish with pork, beef and vegetables, smothered in a sauce made with seeds, nuts, and assorted chiles. Tomatillos and tomatoes served with long grain rice. Dessert will be your Favorite Tres Leches Cake." Can't wait to try all of this! Dinners for two are $27.50 plus tax, which for this quality is a steal.
Delicious, fresh, and fair prices. Flavor is incredible
Fantastic place to take out during the pandemic. Menus typically posted on FB in advance of the coming week.
Awful place to eat. The chef is rude and neurotic. She also can't park straight to save her life.

Great food and experience, you will not be disappointed with culinary creations!Delicious food!
I have been getting the Friday night take out meals for several weeks now. The meals are always fabulous & eclectic. Tonight’s meal was headlined by amazing lobster rolls. The dessert was scrumptious strawberry shortcake. I have not been disappointed once.
I love Cafe 56! Sabrina offers unique and flavorful dishes. Everything I've had has been delicious but the Baja tacandwich is my go-to favorite. Her "secret" dinners are a great way to learn about other cultures while enjoying traditional foods that you likely won't find on menus at other restaurants. We're very much looking forward to when it's safe to offer in-person dinners again, but until then we're benefitting from her offering yummy dinner specials on a regular basis!
I was blown away by the food. Service is friendly and humble. I'm going to recommend this place to every person I see.
