Grill Mon Island, Middletown

Summary- cozy spot offering Jamaican classics. You will enjoy your experience here.

Full review- Just found out about this gem and had to try it. As a connoisseur of Caribbean cuisine it is our mission to try and review every restaurant we can in the area.

Apparently, they’ve been open for a few months but we weren’t aware. Found them on a google maps search at 5.05pm on Saturday. The listing said they closed at 5pm. On a whim called the phone number immediately and pleaded with them to stay open for pick up. The kind lady replied that she was planning to be open for another couple of hours. So I jumped in the car and headed over there quickly.

We ordered variety of dishes :
- Chicken jerk chicken
- Curry goat
- Oxtail

The jerk chicken was running out so we completed the order with a little bit of stew chicken.

All the dishes were very good.
The rice and peas were truly special - Perhaps an extra dose of Love❤️
The Stew chicken was also outstanding.
We will be ordering all these dishes again.

The location is incredibly convenient. it is on College Street literally a block from Main Street.

Middletown is emerging us a culinary destination, and this lovely cozy Jamaican spot really elevates the game.

Incredible Jamaican food. Very friendly service. They had no problems going over all the available items and answering questions. Brown stew chicken smelled and tasted amazing. Oxtail was tender and straight from the kitchen. Giant baked goods so fresh you could still see the steam in the case. Plenty of indoor seating. Depending on the time of day they might be out of something but they’re very accommodating and will let you know when they can restock. There have been a few times where they’re closed despite their posted hours but overall, great new spot in Middletown for Jamaican food!

Do not order from DoorDash! The majority of the container was filled with rice and barely any meat! Spent $40 on door dash for curry goat and chicken and barely got any meat! But other than that good tasting food!

Today was my first time going here and the service was really fast and friendly! I brought my boyfriend who is really particular about his oxtail and he was impressed with both the price and taste. Would definitely recommend :)

Ran into this gem on the way back home from long trip! Customer service was above par! as soon as you walk in the door you are greeted and feel welcomed.
Great family and even better food! Fresh food! And some of the BEST jamaican food I've had in the surrounding states! Even spinners in the curry gravy! That's how you know it's authentic! 5 stars ?

So tasty! We ordered the goat curry, jerk chicken, and oxtail with rice and beans. Everything melted off the bone and was perfectly spicy! We also ordered the mango cake and I would absolutely order it again!

The food was amazing and the service was outstanding! Convenient, free parking across the street. I brought my friend who was a chef in Jamaica. He has eaten at all the well-known Jamaican restaurants in Hartford and East Hartford. How does Grill Mon Island compare? Three times during the meal he said this is the best Jamaican food he has had in the U.S.!

The gentleman working said I'd be back after my first time. He's not wrong. Best jerk outside of Hartford. Super friendly and easily accessible. Rice and beans are solid, gravy is bodied, and the chicken melts off the bone. Definitely worth a try.
