Cute little place hidden underground from the hustle and bustle of Main Street in Mystic, CT.Grabbing some beers to go as the location is small we were fortunate that some people were heading to other locations like we were and offered their seats to us. Able to enjoy the counter and sun we opted for a flight which is our go to preference to enjoy the list before exploring more of the town. I decided to grab the drinks that we didn't get cans for. The Gose was the most distinct with some sea salt in it that provided a unique flavor to my sips. The light flavorful drafts were a great start to the day in downtown Mystic!

They have bag/coat hangers on the bars!Small space that they make really good use out of. It's right off of the main drag, so it's both accessible and relaxing. The bar is just below grade so it's comfortable and quiet. Good tasting beers with a good variety without relying on gimmicks.

So, man, picture this: I'm strollin' downtown, right? And I'm thinkin', "Let's hit up this joint for a brewski after chow, 'cause it's right by where we parked our sweet ride, man." But get this, we had to go down these stairs, like we're enterin' some secret lair or somethin'. It was in a freakin' basement, dude! And get this, there was nobody else in there, but the vibe, man, it had that cool factor goin' on. But, hey, it was small, man. No room for a massive crowd, no matter what. So, I walk up to the bartender, and the lady's super nice. She hooks me up with some beers, man, but to be honest, they weren't mind-blowin'. They were drinkable, you know, worth a try, but they didn't knock my socks off, man. Like, my socks were still on my feet, not flyin' through the air or anything crazy like that. But hey, it's still worth checkin' out, man. All in all, it's a cool little brewery. So, if you're lookin' for a chill spot in a basement with a friendly lady bartender and some decent brews, give it a shot, dude. It's a groovy little joint.

Good beer in a small basement-like vibe. About 9 beers on tap.I had a flight and enjoyed every beer I had. I recommend the saison and hazy.

Quick & enjoyable stop! Not the biggest indoor area if it’s cold or raining outside. Enjoyed the flight and enjoying small local spots

It was super hard to figure out what beer to order because they were all amazing. Small, cozy, board games, cool off a bit.. this place is a hidden gem with great service and some of the tastiest small batch beers I've had in a long time.

Barley Head Brewery is a craft brewery that opened in Mystic, Connecticut in July 2017. It was founded by brewer Drew Rodgers. He first got into brewing when he was living in Harlem, after graduating from Vassar College. His girlfriend (now wife) bought him a home-brew kit. He moved back to Southeastern Connecticut in 2008 and got a job at Jonathan Edwards Winery, working both in the cellar and the vineyard. Rodgers then worked his way up from sales and bottling to become the head brewer at Cottrell Brewing Company in Pawcatuck, where he worked for seven or eight years. Rodgers goal was to always open his own brewery, so he found and renovated a basement space in Factory Square in Downtown Mystic. He chose the name "Barley Head" for the brewery because it is the scientific name for the "part of the barley plant that's useful, and it just seems like a good fit, and it had a nice ring to it."My wife and I first visited Barley Head in December 2018. We were heading to Mystic Seaport to see their holiday lanterns display, but decided to stop in at Barley Head and sample some of their brews first. The basement location definitely made us feel like we were entering into a European "Rathskeller". We ended up splitting a flight that included "Wombat Combat" (IPA), "Crantankerous" (Cranberry Saison), "Dave the Great" (Belgian Dubbel), and "Hypnotized Hippo" (Nitro Stout). The Dubbel was my favorite! It had nice hints of raisins and chocolate. I ended up getting a half growler of it to go. We enjoyed our visit to Barley Head and recommend stopping in if you find yourself in Downtown Mystic.
