I was a regular customer at Broadway and the workers knew me well.
Today I was happy to go out of my way to drive to the restaurant and pick up lunch during my short break at work. I do this instead of ordering because their website and Uber eats page do not accurately reflect the menu, and I couldn’t call ahead of time because for some reason they never answer the phone anymore. Customer experience points lost there, but I gave it grace because the food is decent and I usually have good vibes with the workers.
So I picked up my food, and headed straight back to work. Turns out they charged me for something I did not order and could not eat (cheese fries), so I didn’t touch it and I decided to come back later so that they could replace it with what I actually ordered ~ regular fries.
Shame on me for not double checking my order, but at great restaurants the customers shouldn’t have to. It’s mostly a shame on me because it’s not the first or second time Broadway has completely failed my order, which is a huge inconvenience because my diet is limited. I always order the same items and I speak very clearly, so I’m not sure what the issue is there…. This is the one time I decided to go back and speak up for myself in the situation.
I’m thinking this should be an easy fix, this is what customer service is all about: customer always right and all that. I was super polite, told the worker my situation, but he seemed pretty jaded about it. He offered a refund but I told him that’s not what I wanted. Since I didn’t order cheese fries, I was technically overcharged, but I figured a good way for them to apologize is to make me a fresh batch of fries.
The worker didn’t like that idea, which to me is odd because it seems like the simplest solution rather than refunding measly $5.65 ~ I value the act of ending my hunger over a few bucks. I don’t think the worker was thinking of me as a person, and his lack of empathy in the situation was offensive. He knew I was a regular customer and he just shrugged me off, telling me come back in the morning to talk to the owner about a refund…. Makes no sense that I would bother his boss over $5 and some change. What do I look like?? My time is valuable, and it’s already offensive that my time and energy has been wasted on the restaurants mistake…. A tiny order of fries.
The worker didn’t treat me like he valued my time. Even the fact that I came all the way back, he wasn’t considerate of the fragile state of my loyalty to this restaurant I used to like. Customer service went over this guys head. This was the most disappointing experience I’ve had at this restaurant, and all over some overpriced potatoes….
It’s so odd to me how businesses prioritize themselves over their own patrons these days. I was a proud regular, but I won’t be stepping foot in this restaurant again until I get a genuine apology for all this stress.
Not to mention, I have a generous following and high reputation as an artist in New Haven. At one point I was influenced to do a review of Broadway Kitchen’s food and service as a way to gain them exposure, but now I don’t have anything positive to say other than “ShakeShack is friendlier, and Five Guys has better fries.”

I like this place a lot. I’ve dined in and done take out. Staff and owner are so nice. This a great place to stop in if you’re having an Apple Store visit and want to pass time or just need a break from walking broadway and shopping. Will keep going back.

Wheelchair accessibility: Very easy to navigate with a wheelchair. Has a ramp like entrance that goes spans pretty well into the restaurant before levelling off.

Came here around 3:30pm on a weekday afternoon for takeout. Rice was steaming hot and fragrant! Fresh veggies and well-seasoned chicken. Quite filling and good value for the price ($12.29 after taxes), considering it is downtown New Haven.
