Drove down from mass to check this place out. Did not disappoint. Food was delicious had that good old feel of the guys breaking balls and joking around while cooking up some delicious burgers.

Very tiny building. Loved the experience of the original burger. No ketchup or mustard. Just a burger on bread.

Whenever I’m in New Haven, the first thing I want to eat is a hamburger from Louis’ Lunch — the true OG of hamburgers.
The burger is simple yet iconic: cheese spread with onion and tomato served on toasted bread. No frills, just great flavor done right.

The hospitality is warm and welcoming while there may be a wait due to their traditional cooking process, it’s absolutely worth being patient. A must-visit spot in New Haven. Highly recommend!

There’s a reason the burger has evolved since it’s inception. This was literally the worst burger I’ve ever had. Completely tasteless. And it’s not even an exaggeration, I tried so hard to like it more than the others in my group. But I sat and thought about every other burger I’ve had in my life and just… nothing comes close.

It’s cheap, but It is NOT worth the 2+ hour wait for it. A novel experience. But this can be left to the history books and museums at this point.

A quaint restaurant with roots dating back to the 1900s, staying true to its original preparation method. Medium rare is the way to go—it highlights the natural flavors beautifully. Simple, classic, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Often hyped up in magazines and online lore, the original hamburger was a total letdown. It should NOT take 40 minutes to make a burger! I don’t care if it’s made in the original 1900 ovens. This place is completely overrated and service nonexistent. If your idea of a historic place is one with no seating and graffitied wood all over the place then go for it. For me this establishment is a waste of space in New Haven.

Great hamburger, nothing like fast food’s hamburgers. The service was fast.
