Highly overrated snobbery. They use interesting ingredients. But that doesn't make it taste good. Save yourself $70 and hit sushi palace hamden. It's not only all you can eat it's the best sushi in the area

Let's say worst Japanese food i have had. Did a order to go. Ordered the Shumai, some sushi and some tempura. Shuman looked like it was frozen Shuman heated up and left to seat out. Sushi wasn't that good. Tempura they give one shrimp and rest veggies. I will never order from here. Oh and when I walked in not the most welcoming place.

The best sushi restaurant I've ever visited.. from San Francisco to Europe. Try the Saki fusions.

This place was great when I went over the summer however this recent visit was awful. I will not be returning. The food was so so, the sushi rolls were good but the other items were not the same quality as I had in the past. The red wine was extremely overpriced, it's a $10 bottle that they had the nerve to charge $40 for it! I would understand$20, but $40 is just outrageous! When I mentioned it to the waiter, he shrugged and said that he doesn't make the prices. I will not be back and I certainly will no longer be recommending this place to others. Its a wonderful concept but the prices for the quality just doesn't match the product any longer.

The staff and owners of Miya’s are the best. We just ordered takeout and, though we have been fans for over a decade, were delighted by their wonderful flavors and generosity of spirit. You can taste the love in every bite.

Miya's had been on my list of places to dine before they close. My sushi selection was... an experience. Not sure I'd order any of these options again. My server, although not an employee (don't ask), was very pleasant. If they plan to stay open they should make him permanent staff.

I have had this place bookmarked since they opened but when I found out they were closing at the end of 2020 I made a trip out here to finally try it. I did have a fantastic experience here but the short version of this review is: the restaurant is innovative and most of the food is fantastic with the exception of one thing: the sushi. However we still enjoyed the majority of our meal and the service was so friendly. It seemed like a few of the employees were just friends that were helping out so there were times where we were hoping to have them explain a dish to us and they weren't able to (especially with the sushi course). I came by with 3 friends and we all decided to get the moveable feast. You can choose from a traditional, adventurous, or plant-based option all ending with either a seafood sushi course at the end or a plant-based one. 2 of us got the adventurous and one got the traditional. However they served everything family style and with the exception of the sushi course we basically all got identical items. Most of the items either come from their own farm or another sustainable source. They also make use of invasive species. Our meal consisted of the following: 0) Flaming Cock: An employee gave us a sample of it and we loved it. It includes a blend of spices and has a low but present heat and a bit of sweetness. It's absolutely delicious. (5/5) 1) Fried Weeds: Definitely heavy on the oil but they disintegrate in your mouth since they're so delicate and they're quite addictive (4/5) 2) House Salad: A variety of greens and a simple vinegar that apparently uses herbaceous weeds. It's very subtle and lightly sour. I can't quite describe exactly what makes it unique but I found myself able to eat it nonstop (4.5/5) 3) Jellyfish Salad: Nice light and bouncy pieces of jellyfish with some kelp. I enjoyed it but I would prefer a slightly more flavorful dressing. (3.75/5) 4) Bittermelon stuffed w/ pinenuts, roasted fingerling potatoes, fried brussels sprouts: I'm not the biggest fan of bittermelon and have only ever enjoyed it/swallowed it once but this one was quite delicious. It's still bitter but tasty. The fingerling potatoes weren't anything particularly special but they were well seasoned and tasty. The fried brussels sprouts were crispy and charred on the outside and soft and tender inside (4/5) 5) Natto w/ Egg and umeboshi: This was DELICIOUS. I've learned to enjoy natto but I can rarely eat a huge portion of it. But the addition of the salty sour umeboshi against it adds so much flavor and the egg helps with the texture as well. Not sure what type of grains they use but they had a bit more of a bite which helped with the soft natto texture. (5/5) 6) Agedashi Tofu: The tofu used was more firm and I wasn't the biggest fan of it. But the kelp and wild oyster mushroom broth had so much umami. (3.75/5) 7) Rice Noodles w/ Thai Basil: A really simple plate of rice noodles tossed with some sesame oil and some peppers. Just a really nice balanced combination (4/5) 8) Miso Wild: A miso soup with a slightly tangy aftertaste and a huge variety of greens. It tastes healthy but in a good way. There are a few battered pieces of something that gives you a touch more fat but otherwise the soup just feels like warmth and energy in a bowl. (4/5) 9) Chickenots: I think they're trying to replicate fried chicken and I can't say they quite succeeded in that but it is a very tasty fried mushroom with a firm crunch. (3.75/5) 10) Baba: A very interesting bite. It's almost like a singular stack of au gratin potatoes with a drizzle of lemon dill sauce and topped with a piece of crab on top. There's a slight mellow cheesiness to it that melds into the lemon dill sauce (4/5) 11) Sushi Plate. It's a little tough to tell what I got since everything was mixed. As a whole, I can't say any of them reminded me quite of sushi. It was more reminiscent of gimbap for me. Usually the plant portion of the sushi is the predominant flavor and texture that I

Super friendly staff, but unfortunately I didn't like how the food tasted. I got the picnic set that costed me $45 after a discount, but was so disappointed with how flavorless the food was......

Yelp says this place is closed, but we ate here Friday night (for this very reason!). When we asked them when they were closing, they said they "weren't sure yet" which leads me to believe it could have been a cleverly orchestrated marketing tactic. If so, well done, Bun (Ted) and team. History: I've been coming here for 10+ years because of the sustainable, unique sushi creations and the inviting vibe. Fast forward to October 23, 2020:From the moment my friends and I sat down to eat, we were treated with such hostility and negligence. My friends were the first to notice how we were being spoken to, but I assured them it was all in our heads. The night goes on and the service gets progressively worse. The server taking our order (petite Asian woman) starts rushing us - literally walking away as we are speaking. Hmmm, must be a busy night - nope! We look around, it's not busy and the server is instead chatting up a couple near us the entire night. Another table of 6+ near us (who got there after us) eats and leaves. We're stranded. We can't get ahold of anyone. Another server with what looks like a ski mask (interesting choice) comes to our table after we reluctantly repeat "Excuse me!?" a few times. He's curt and spacey. We're looking at each other like WTF...but again, everything is taking FOREVER - from asking for the check to actually receiving it. The bill is $200 - we speak to the server about how terrible our service and food was (the food here has been going downhill for a while). An apology or a 10-20% discount would have sufficed. Instead, the server starts screaming at us, making excuses for everything we point out. She tells us they're short staffed and that's why the service was so bad. I then ask her why she was standing at the table near us for so long. Her response: they made their reservation months ago and it's their anniversary. That's very cute and dandy but it does not excuse how we were treated. At this point, she's flushed, she's screaming (customers are staring at her), and angrily goes "let me just comp the whole thing then!" We're shocked. I smile. I shouldn't have smiled. She gets even more heated and loudly proclaims, "that's what you wanted anyway! for the meal to be comped!" Hun, no, we did not want that. We're so flabbergasted at this point. She screams at us to never come back. We're done being disrespected. We walk out. None of us have ever walked out like that. Meanwhile, the owner (Bun or Ted), is standing right there ignoring the whole thing. He gives no Fs. He has a reputation in the New Haven service industry for not treating his female employees well (hint hint). Why did he not step in during this debacle? Miya's Sushi was once a premier New Haven institution. Now, it's that piece of trash floating in the gutter. Buh-bye, you will not be missed. I can't wait to see what new business takes over.

End of night take out on a nice Saturday night, under these conditions... was my FIRST time ordering Miya’s!! Ordered near one of everything on the plants menu!Sat for over 40 min and my wait was made welcome by super comfy seating with great reads on a library table, and passing conversation of staff and customers.BEST PART that I didn’t even notice until I returned home... not only was all the foods RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING & we’ve been so generously gifted extras items beyond our order to a full menu sampler!?!?! THANK YOU MIYAS for an amazing evening & tasting adventure!!! ???

I'm not a fan of sushi, but now I am. If your not in being a carnivore their vegetarian friendly.Probably one of the best restaurants experience I have ever had.

I really don't get the hype of this place at all. Every time I order here I am completely underwhelmed especially for the price. Their vegan rolls despite being filled with a myriad of ingredients are essentially tasteless. I enjoy simplicity when it comes to sushi and would rather pay half the price for a roll with one or two ingredients. I absolutely cannot stand how Wasabi and ginger are extras that you have to pay more for. You would think that a roll with multiple ingredients would be flavorful but it's like eating a ball of bland rice. Two rolls and a very small bowl of soup set me back almost 50 dollars. I've tried two times now and 5 different offerings on their menu. Never again. There are far better sushi restaurants in the area that are infinitely cheaper and much more flavorful especially for those of us who do not eat fish. Classic downtown we want to lure in Yalies restaurant.

shoutout to miyas sushi for providing takeout-meals during the covid_19 pandemic and providing free meals for healthcare workers. This was a variety of sushi though I'd consider this hipster sushi! very untraditional rolls and honestly they lacked on flavor, had a very unusual odor and taste of grease, and was a struggle to get down. Others i checked with also found their plates unenjoyable.

Amazing and imaginative. Sad to see them go...
