I walked into Rice on Fire today for the first time. This "hole-in-the-wall" in the middle of a somewhat depressed residential neighborhood was really a pleasant surprise. The menu is simple: you choose your protein, your vegetables, rice or noodles, and the sauce. They mix it all together on a flat grill-top, and your meal is ready in minutes. They also offer soup and egg rolls as additional options.
Bottom line...the food is really flavorful, very fresh, and hot. Also, I paid under $10 for chicken stir fry with rice and a soda.
Seating is extremely limited, so apparently the majority of their business is take-out, but don't let the appearance put you off. From the street, it looks like a neighborhood bodega, but you should really try Rice on Fire. The staff is friendly and helpful. The protein is real, and not processed meat. The vegetables are fresh, and the portions are ample. I've gotta say: if you're in the neighborhood (a few blocks down the street from New Haven Union Station) try this place out.

Whoever is cooking this food, knows what they are doing when it comes to the flavors of hibachi! The rice was so flavorful and I tried the chicken wings this time and now I can't get enough! Time to introduce my family.

I ordered online for pick up. Lady that greeted me was awesome and sweet! The food was good, I got teriyaki sauce on the side and I definitely had to add it in otherwise flavor was kind of bland. BUT I was also told online my rice would have basic fried rice veggies like the carrots, peas, corn etc and I didn't get any of that. How you going to have hibachi rice and the name called rice on fire without the good stuff? I'd only come back if that was guaranteed since it was pretty good already but 4 star from me for that.
