Went to Sally’s on a Friday night with family visiting from London as it was on their bucket list of things to do in CT. Had a great experience. Service was great. Everyone was so friendly. Pizza was delicious. We ordered several different ones to try. It was difficult to pick a favorite. Definitely worth the wait. They want to go back tomorrow 😊
I have countless types of pizza across the nation and even overseas… Apizza is hands down the best. You’d think the sauce would be overwhelming but it was honestly incredible… Sally’s is a must visit in New Haven

Summary: Employees ate my pizza after I had waited over 4 hours to pick it up.
Details below:
I was originally a big fan of Sally’s — I even had a 5 star review for them originally. But I had a TERRIBLE experience the last time I went.
I had ordered two apizzas, a plain mozzarella and tomato sauce and a white clam. I called in the order at 5PM on a Saturday. They told me the pickup time would be at 10:15PM (I remembered this distinctly since it was weird to me that it was past their closing time). In the past, they’ve had me wait 10-15 minutes past my pickup time due to how busy they were so I showed up at 10:30PM.
Because it was after hours, I had to go to the dining area rather than the pickup window. When I went to the counter to pick up my food, the employees said that it was no longer there, while eating a slice of pizza. As I turned around to leave, a manager was walking in and asked me what I was there for. I told him that I was there to pick up my pizza. He came back up to the counter with me and asked the employees where my pizzas were. The employees sheepishly grinned as they pointed to some empty used boxes on the table nearby.
THE EMPLOYEES HAD EATEN MY PIZZA. The one that had talked to me at the counter was literally eating a slice of it when they told me it was gone.
One even had the audacity to say that they told us to come and pick it up at 9PM, which was just ABSOLUTELY wrong. I had my phone on speaker when they told me the pick up time and my partner and friend heard it as well.
It’s an absolute shame. My friend was visiting from another state and I had absolutely hyped up the pizza we would be getting from Sally’s as it was, by far, my partner and I’s favorite spot in New Haven. We had to scramble and try to find a new place to get dinner at nearly 11PM at night in New Haven.
Absolutely appalling behavior.

I can’t even begin to believe how many times I have been disappointed in this place. We got a large takeout pizza for $30 and it was the size of a Chuck-E-Cheese pizza!!!!!!!!!! It was TINY! Probably because they can’t fit their long shaped pizza in a regular box. And I already know you’re going to respond to this review saying “Email us here so we can fix this.” That’s just a blatant lie because you responded to my girlfriends review, and she even emailed back twice… No follow up was ever given. So sad this place was historic and is now just a sell out. Have fun waiting an hour in line and another 45 minutes just to get some hot garbage.

It was very mid for the anticipation built around this place. The old ladies in the parking lot I shared slices with agreed, this place has gone downhill.

Sally’s is my favorite pizza in New Haven and perhaps anywhere. It’s worth the wait in line so don’t be discouraged. Simple is better here, don’t over complicate your toppings. The tomato pie is by far the best in the city. The vibes inside are immaculate as well as the service.

Terrific! They do not prioritize fast turnover over quality. You don’t see that much these days. They work their butts off so just be patient
1st Timers to Sally's Apizza. This was a pretty interesting experience. There was a pretty long wait - 45 minutes. The inside is small, but it offers a unique bit of history. The staff & service was excellent.
We (party of 4) split a couple pizza. They were very good! I'd definitely recommend stopping by if you passing through the New Haven area.

Wasn't worth the trip. Pizza was burned and lacked flavor. Very disappointing.

Amazing pizza, wait in line might me 2,5-3,5 hours, so prepare yourself. Order to go might take 2-3 hours as well, both worth the wait. Most likely #1 pizza in the whole America

Great atmosphere, good pizza, long wait. Sally's was nice and the cheese and Mozzarella is a bit better than Frank Pepe's. However, Frank's clam pie was the winner for us. We preferred the clam forward pie. With Sally's clam pie the cheese and garlic took over the flavor profile. Great experience overall, we'll be back!

I had to try coal fired pizza while visiting the New Haven area for a travel baseball tournament. (The small joys of being a traveling sports parent. Go Bombers! ⚾💣🥰)
I ordered door dash from Sally's. I researched just about every pizza joint on door dash and Sally's was the only coal fired (and I had to do a separate AI search to find the deets on each).
It wasn't until the box arrived and another baseball mom recognized the name from a big time pizza reviewer, that I realized what a treat we were all in for. (I think she squealed)
The pizza wasn't very warm. Not the restaurant's fault. I'd say, if this is very important to you, go there yourself.
The crust had a lovely crunch and char. The toppings, including the fresh tasting tomato sauce, we're great!
I think next time we'll treat ourselves to checking out the atmosphere and service on the restaurant.
Enjoy!

I have been the biggest fan of Sally’s for some time now and find that waiting 2hrs for take out is worth it at their original location in New Haven. I come from PA to visit my sister and always get Sally’s. But this time was just super disappointing. I have raved about this place to a close friend and asked her to come try it out. Finally got our hands on our takeout after two hours and went back to find the pizza was completely burnt. And don’t get me wrong, I love a crispy crust and that’s what I have always loved about Sally’s, but this was inedible. The sauce doesn’t taste the same anymore, way too much tomato sauce, little amount of cheese (and burnt), and burnt crust, all for $30+? I normally order a LG pie and save the rest for cold leftovers, but probably will just toss this.
Sallys has picked up a lot of traction these past few years, but I hope it’s not the reason why their quality has gone down. Hoping this is a one off, and someone was training or something.

We traveled from out of state to try this pizza and quite frankly, it didn’t live up to the hype. We ordered a tomato cheese pie, which was very heavy on the tomatoes and extremely light on the cheese.
The other two members of our party had to sit and drink water because Sally’s website did not specify that their flagship location in New Haven only serves pizza. The others locations apparently have a plethora of other options, including gluten-free items, which would’ve been much appreciated. They need to make this more clear on line.
The service was rather dismissive, and the interior was very sloppy. It looked like there had just been a mini earthquake with all the crooked pictures on the walls… A very peculiar experience, and I would say if you go, be prepared for an underwhelming time.
Absolutely no comparison to Frank Pepe’s

This is the best new haven pizza spot. Their potato and rosemary pie was quite delicious
