The servers are so rude and unprofessional. The biryani’s rice was not cooked well and the shrimp was not spiced properly. They had added items incorrectly and when asked why, treated as if it was our mistake.
The service was good and the atmosphere is really nice. The goat curry was good and we liked the chutneys we ordered. Other than that, the food was really disappointing. The butter chicken was unfortunately the worst I’ve ever had. It lacked depth of flavor or the balance of savory and sweet that makes butter chicken so good. We also ordered the okra chips and don’t recommend. It was just a bizarre thing to order butter chicken that wasn’t good at an Indian restaurant
Craving Indian Street Food at Yale?
Savor the flavors of India right here on campus! From spicy, tangy chaats to warm, flaky samosas — enjoy fast, flavorful Indian food with the perfect balance of quantity and quality.
Food is delicious. Servers are friendly and attentive. The only reason why I’m giving them 3⭐️ is because of their business practice of limiting diners to their dining experience to 2 hours. We had a reservation for 5:30. We get there, the host checks us in and immediately states “We’re going to need that table by 7:15pm, that should give you enough time, right? 2 hours?” It also happened to us before, while we were eating. The host came over and asked if we were almost done, because they needed the table for a reservation.
We recently dined at SHERKAAN Indian Street Food with family and friends while in New Haven for my son’s graduation from Medical School, and the entire experience was outstanding. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome and well cared for, handling our larger group with ease and genuine hospitality.
The atmosphere is lively and inviting, with a vibrant décor that adds to the overall charm of the place. It’s clear that a lot of thought has gone into both the ambiance and the menu.
The food was nothing short of exceptional. The butter chicken was rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked, and the lamb kabobs were incredibly tender with just the right amount of spice—both were clear favorites at our table. We also enjoyed the crisp samosas, flavorful chaat, and aromatic biryanis. Even those in our group who were new to Indian cuisine left thoroughly impressed. The creative cocktails and refreshing mocktails were also a big hit.
SHERKAAN delivers not just a great meal, but a memorable dining experience. We’ll definitely be recommending it to others looking for top-quality Indian street food in a fun and welcoming setting.
My freind treated me here. Everything was cooked perfectly. The place was clean and cozy. Really liked everything.
A fav place for sure!! LOVE IT. So much to choose from, such nice vibes, indoor and outdoor seating, staff is amazing!
Very good food and nice atmosphere. Service was slow but they are very nice. It was graduation weekend.
My wife and I enjoyed this spot with its unique aesthetic. Our waitress took a while to tend to us, but was kind. Although we thought that the butter chicken was flavorful, we thought that it could have had more chicken. The okra fries were a good side that our table split and the garlic naan was solid. My chai was tasty, but what really put this place over the top was the mumbai manhattan. That was a really well-balanced and unique cocktail that I am looking forward to ordering the next time we are back.
Sat at the bar on a busy weekday night, and the atmosphere was very cute. Unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of the food. I had the samosa chaat, potato dosa, and chicken frankie. The portion sizes were very good, but I wouldn't get anything again except the samosa chaat.

Great food!
The butter chicken was spicier than I expected but the naan break was good. I would have liked more chicken fir the price
One of the worst Indian food I’ve ever had before. Lamb Sheiek is very poorly made, feel like it has 10% meat and the rest is punch of spices and maybe rice or bread. Chef, you better buy frozen store lamb skewers and sell it, it tastes much better. It’s a shame to call it Indian food restaurant. Real Indian restaurants are more authentic and more food value. Will never be back.
I wondered when I saw the menu prices how this could be quality food for this price.
Love their samosas and butter chicken!
This place is located right in the heart of Yale University. It is clean, with a nice atmosphere and you can pick to sit inside or outside. The food was very good and the portions were pretty good and filling. We ended up taking half of it home. Their samosas were amazing by the way. Truly a lovely place.
