My favorite Indian place in New Haven. For me, it’s always Baigan Bharta w/ either Alu or garlic naan. Appetizers? Vege Samosas or Alu Tikki. Incredible!

Was just passing through town and came with a group looking for a bite. The food was incredible and the waiter was so charismatic and had us cracking up laughing. the saag paneer had beautiful warming spices. our waiter gave great recommendations as well, he seemed to really care about our experience there. i wish i lived here so i could come back again and again!

New favorite spot. Ordered the paneer saag for pick-up and asked to substitute with chana (I’ve been informed this is not at all traditional) so I greatly appreciate them accommodating my dietary restriction. The saag was delicious and perfectly complimented by the basmati rice and the roti I ordered. I’ve walked past this place a few times, and it smells so good from the street it stops me in my tracks. I’m happy to say it tastes even better than it smells. The host was very friendly and the ambience looked very clean and cozy. 10/10

I absolutely love Sitar, it's my favorite Indian restaurant in New Haven. Meat dishes are quite good but the vegetarian fare is where they really shine. The baigan bharta is the best I've ever had, I cannot recommend it enough! We order it every time and have yet to find a real competitor on that dish.

This was our first time visiting the restaurant, and unfortunately it will be our last. My husband and I sat down and started eating, and just as we were getting into our meal, I saw a mouse run out from underneath the couch right next to our table.
We immediately told a staff member, and while they did apologize, it didn’t seem sincere at all. Instead, the waiter told us the restaurant was up to code, that they do monthly cleaning, and that exterminators come regularly. I understand that things can happen, but I actually saw a live mouse while I was eating, and it felt like they didn’t take it seriously.
After that, my husband got down on his hands and knees several times trying to see where it went, and he discovered that there were multiple mouse traps placed underneath the very couch we were sitting on. That tells me this wasn’t a random occurrence—they’re clearly aware there’s an issue.
Before we left, we told another waitress about what happened and she didn’t seem to care either. I asked for a manager and was told there wasn’t one available. No one showed real concern, and it was honestly pretty upsetting.
We both returned our food and barely ate any of it. The waiter offered to make us new food, but I declined. If there’s one mouse, there are likely more, and I just wasn’t comfortable eating anything else. Despite that, we were still charged the full $60. I told the server that if this happened at my own restaurant, I wouldn’t charge a customer at all. He told me he would make sure I got a refund by the end of the night. That still hasn’t happened.
I even left a $10 tip because I was trying to be respectful, but the way this situation was handled from start to finish was completely unprofessional.
We won’t be back. If you care about food safety, cleanliness, and basic customer service, I recommend going somewhere else.

Order elsewhere.
When ordering on door dash their menu is extremely confusing.
I ordered what I thought was paneer tikka masala. And they sent dry paneer that’s tastes horrible and raw!!!! $18 for dry paneer is robbery. The papari was soaked in oil and inedible. As well as no utensils or napkins.
The total for just me was $60 for 4 items.
By far the worst and most over priced Indian food I’ve ever had in America!

I’m hoping I caught them on a bad night. I ordered chicken korma and garlic naan on DoorDash. Neither tasted good. The naan was undercooked. The chicken korma was edible but didn’t taste great.

Fantastic food and drinks! Excellent service. On a minor note, wish it were less chilly inside and didn’t love the pop music playing but overall great experience and will return soon

One of the best Indian restaurants in New Haven! Have dined in and ordered take-out many times, and have never been disappointed. The chicken korma is to die for. The samosas are also delicious. Great prices and huge quantities of food. Can't wait to return!
