⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The lamb saag at Tandoor is an absolute delight! Tender, succulent lamb pieces cooked to perfection in a creamy spinach sauce, with just the right blend of spices. Each bite is a burst of flavors that will tantalize your taste buds. The dish is rich, flavorful, and truly authentic. Paired with fluffy naan or steamed rice, it's a meal that will leave you craving for more. The portion size is generous, making it perfect for sharing or indulging on your own. The ambiance of the restaurant adds to the overall experience, creating a memorable dining experience. I highly recommend trying the lamb saag at Tandoor - it's a true culinary delight!---

Very cool atmosphere and really great people. Food was quick to come out, good portions. When I asked for a box for my curry our server brought me extra rice to bring home, too. After we paid the check, our group lost track of time and ended up sitting at our table for a while-- when our server came by, we got up to leave, but he told us we were welcome to stay a while and he even brought us more water. Was just a really nice experience overall and will definitely be returning!! Definitely dine in if you get the chance :)

Buyer beware, my order was hijacked by another restaurant, do nor buy from yelp site go to the Tandoor the clay oven website directly. I ordered from what I thought was tandoor in New Haven which has excellent food. When I placed the order I did not get a confirmation. I waited a bit but nothing came. I called the restaurant directly and they said they did not have my order. I realized I was scammed and ordered directly. Food showed up from the yelp order, it was terrible and there was no business name on the receipt. Somehow another restaurant stole the order. I paid with pay pal which makes it impossible to get your money back. SCAM ALERT!

Ordered the chicken curry, there was a young waitress who serves me, I was chewing on the chicken and pulled out a long string of hair out my mouth, it was gross, when I showed the waitress, she put the hair in her pocket still charged me for the food, manager wasn’t there.

I’ve only ordered to go but have done so many times and highly recommend Tandoor! The food is always delicious and the servings are larger than any other Indian restaurant in New Haven. The inside looks cute too.Parking: Parking on chapel is doable but sometimes a pain, depending on the time of day. You can also park at the shops at Yale and walk to Tandoor if it’s really bad.

I have tried almost all of the indian restaurants in New Haven & Tandoor is the best! The price is reasonable and the curry’s are always creamy & consistent. Over the past 2 years, I have got take out from here almost twice a month. The paneer tikki masala is my go to, but I have tried the butter chicken, biryani, & other curries. highly recommend!!

The food is excellent here. It is bursting with flavor. The bad reviews have to be bogus because the food is fantastic. It is also a cool touch that it is in an old school diner.

This place is underrated. I'm not usually a buffet person but I love a good Indian buffet. I probably sampled 5 or 6 different things and had both kheer and gulab jamun for dessert! No way they should have a sub-4 star rating. Maybe New Haven sets a high bar for Indian food but the food here was better than at some higher rated places in the Hartford region, and it was a bargain. It's a diner car so the atmosphere is nothing special but if you have a craving for Indian, this will satisfy it.

I have ordered chicken biryani but I got some dish that tasted like sambar rice with capsicum and chicken in it. I strongly recommend not to opt this place for good Indian food.

we visited TANDOOR last night for dinner. I had not been in this building, 1226 Chapel st since the early 1980's , when it was a 24 hour diner. we were greeted by the owner as we entered, such a nice touch. the restaurant is comfortable . the wait staff was friendly and professional. the food was very good . veg samosas , the garlic naan & butter chicken . good sized portions , great taste. it was our first time to eat-in, we had done take out a couple times. we will return, the garlic naan - is very good. the owner was a gentleman , friendly and inviting. we are planning our next TANDOOR visit. ~ JDS , 11-05-2023 .
