While it certainly can't be compared to many European museums, it remains one of the best places that uncouth Americans can visit.

I keep coming back here any time I need some inspiration. Today is the first time I got yelled at for getting "too close" to the art. In the program it literally says "Please look closely but do not touch any of the artworks". My mother and I weren't touching. We were about a foot away from the art, analyzing the brush strokes in one of the paintings, when we got yelled at by this security guard. When I told her I wasn't touching it, as I assumed that she though that's what we were doing, she rudely replied " I told you not to get close!" Like, who does she think she is? I continued to look as closely as I wanted. She kept hawking at us the entire time we were on the second floor, and we were doing nothing wrong. Her attitude sure ruined the experience for me. As we were walking downstairs to exit, we heard a couple complain about a rude security guard on the second floor. Long hair in a pony tail, mask on, power tripping.Anyway, go enjoy the beautiful art. There's always something new to discover.

A absolute gem of a museum and its the oldest art museum in America! The museum houses Picasso, Van Gough, Warhol, and Monet among many others. It's also free! Highly recommend!

Short version: This museum offers a varied collection of art and is great for museum lovers. The security and guards are respectful & insightful, and admission is free. However, if you're not a fan of museums, you might want to skip it. 3/5Full Version:This museum is a haven in New Haven for art enthusiasts. As someone who doesn't usually enjoy museums, I found the experience surprisingly pleasant. The museum boasts a diverse collection of sculptures, paintings, and other artistic works that cater to a wide audience. One of the highlights of the visit was the respectful and insightful security and guards, who added value to the experience. Additionally, the free admission was a nice touch. While the art was displayed in a decent fashion, nothing particularly stood out as exceptional. For those who do not typically enjoy museums, it might be best to give to not chance it. Museums are for museum lovers and this will place will not create any converts.

Awesome experience! The gallery is filled with exquisite art that will take your breath away! We met Dorothy, who is part of the security staff. She was completely welcoming and friendly, which made our visit even better than we could have expected. Would highly recommend spending a few hours here, at least! And don't forget to say high to Dorothy! The gallery should be proud to have her on staff!!

Good art, in the same but smaller league of big city museums but small like a big city gallery. Lots to see. Good bakance of rotating artists and meaninhful collwctions. Heavy emphasis on modern, contemporary painting and photography... and diversity i.e. non white male works but lovingly so (and that's where were at after all) It's a local jewel.

This is a WONDERFUL opportunity to see works across time and from around the world. It is an incredibly impressive collection and I look forward to going a second time. The European wing has pieces dating back to the 1300s that I particularly enjoyed seeing, but all of it was a great experience. The curators' displays are beautiful and thoughtful. The docents were very helpful. I cannot say enough nice things about my afternoon. Thank you Yale!
