Fabulous experience at ZINC last night. Everything was delicious and the service was outstanding.
We were underwhelmed by Zinc. The food was fairly inconsistent. Some of it was fantastic (especially that kale and shaved brussels sprout salad), but a few dishes were simply not up to par. Further, for a relatively early Saturday night reservation, they were out of quite a number of dishes (who runs out of rice?!) and we weren't told until it would have been too late to make changes. With that being said, our server, Julia, was an absolute gem.
We had lunch on a very quiet Saturday and felt that we dined at Zinc rather than just “going out to eat”. There were only a couple other tables occupied so the restaurant was very relaxed. Service was outstanding and we were there for almost two hours, our choice as we enjoyed being there. Our kale and Brussels sprouts salad was big enough to split as a starter and we thought the steak frites and scallop mains were excellent. The Sicilian pistachio cake and cardamom ice cream was also excellent. Our only minor ding would be the description of the cheese plate describing a serving of: whole grain bread, local honey, and chutney. There was no chutney on the plate, grilled white ciabatta instead of whole grain, and the honey was drizzled on dried mango slivers (odd) while not served as an individual item. We also gave the value a 4/5 because Zinc is more expensive than other area restaurants and some of the lunch prices are the same as for dinner. Except for these minor quibbles, you get what you pay for and we will be back to Zinc. We really liked it.
I think this restaurant is overrated. It's OK. Limited cocktail menu and mediocre food. We were excited to see affagato on the menu. It was served in a bowl with an ice tea spoon. I have been to Italy many times and I was never served affagato in a bowl. The espresso should melt the gelato turning it into a creamy treat that you drink!
This was a revisit to Zinc for us after a few years' absence. The staff was pleasant and accommodating, service was attentive and responsive, but not hovering, cocktails were creative and ample, and the food was exceptional. We were initially disappointed that our first seafood choice from the menu was not available due to market conditions, but the server explained the alternative to us in precise detail-and it came exactly as she described. It was delicious and well-prepared! The entire experience was enjoyable and memorable-we will be back!
Food was ok, no wow factor here. Husband's steak was small but good, my halibut was a tad dry but the sauces on the plate helped it be moist. The Sicilian cake was tasty but the write up sounded better then it was.
A nice dining experience overall. Loved the kale salad and hummus appetizers, though I'd like to see more pita bread come with the hummus. Presentation is nice. Overall the entrees were fine, though nothing really stood out: lamb curry, arctic char, short ribs. Desserts, too, were good but not, I'd say, outstanding -- the chocolate tart and the cookies with ice cream and affogato (coffee). Service was very good and attentive, very friendly waitstaff team. Go check it out, see what you think. It's definitely popular, always seem to be busy.
Fantastic meal for our anniversary. Elaine was great! Even gave us some complimentary bubbly. We loved our meal, and it made for a special night. Thanks!
Really a first class drinking and dinning experience. Wonderful bartender and creative chef. Our go-to place in New Haven.
The food is delicious and always cutting edge. Nothing ordinary. They helped us eat well, enjoy and make a theatre show on time.

Excellent food, service, and attention to Mekong my husband, who is blind, by telling him where his plates or drink has been placed. Unusual and excellent!
We came to celebrate a special occasion. In the menu were lamb chops and halibut. When we arrived we were told those two items were not available. There was salmon. Both my husband and son ordered the salmon and were very specific to ask for it to be cooked all the way through. We also ordered scallops for the table. The food took a very long time but that was fine as we also ordered charcuterie. The scallops took forever. Luckily the men ate the scallops because when the salmon arrived it was raw in the middle. Husband ate some. Son returned his meal. The ladies had pasta and tacos and they were great. Our server was very sweet and attentive. The food was a fail. Maybe it was an off night for Zinc.
My husband and I went here for our anniversary. We were greeted with champagne and then had a few cocktails from the bar. We had the baba ganoush and duck special for appetizers, chicken tacos and lamb for our meals, and tried a few of their delicious deserts. The staff were welcoming and friendly. It was a super lovely night!

The food was overpriced and didn’t even taste good. They spent over 50 minutes to make our food and gave one of us a burger instead of the bass he ordered. It was honestly just mediocre and not even worth the price. I’d avoid. (Also, the charge $3 for a single slice of toasted bread cut into 3 pieces…)
