Its a binary option; take it or drive around the long way …DUH. The RV ticketing contrast between Cross Sound and Cape May/Lewes is night and day. On Cross Sound, rigs that are 23’ or longer you can only phone order your ticket (and pay double the price). No rhyme or reason why; operator takes the same information and enters it instead of you doing it online. Office hours are yours to guess…not listed. Just remember no guns and shut off your propan.
Very nice ride
Beautiful ride. All employees were professional and kind. Was a bit pricey compared to seattpe ferries yet it got me my service animal and truck safely to my destination
Consistently on time.
Always a pleasure to use the Ferry to Long Island.
Perfect trip across the sound. Even purchased breakfast at the Cafe on-board. Very good.
Great seating in the lounge, good customer service, especially at the bar, and all in all would recommend.
Traveled many times
Well maintained boats and knowledgeable staff
I booked a 5:30pm ferry on 10/11/2024 out of Orient Point. I hit massive traffic on the way and knew there was possibility I wouldn’t make my reservation. I arrived at the ferry terminal at 5:20pm and was fully prepared to be turned away. To my surprise, the ticketing agent scanned my QR code reservation, printed out a ticket and handed it to me. He then told me to “hurry and go right to the ferry” which I did. As soon as I drove up to the ferry the attendants began barking at me and said “you’re not getting on this ferry back up”. I then asked to speak to a “supervisor” who came out and said “you were late there’s nothing I can do”. I tried explaining the situation to him, that I was given a ticket. He goes “what can I tell you it’s his first day and you were late. You’re not getting on this boat”. (Keep in mind while this was going on the ferry was still firmly attached to the ramp). I then asked if I would compensated for this inconvenient mistake on their part, he scoffs and says “absolutely not!” Frustrated I then went inside the office to request a standby ticket. The woman at the counter printed it out and told me to go to “lane 2” I then drove back around to see the initial ticketing agent who told me “lane 1” as I drive down the same “supervisor” goes “lane 2”. No professionalism whatsoever. I went back inside and asked for a refund (minus $15!) I drove back to port Jefferson and got on their ferry with no issue.
Again, I would have been fine being turned away but the fact that the ticketing agent gave me a ticket and then being yelled at for actually trying to use it was unreasonable. There is an amicable way of telling a customer that they were late without shouting at them and certainly not by printing out a ticket that cannot be used! You would think that for a $70+ ticket you would be entitled to basic customer service or an APOLOGY for their mistake, but no that’s too much to ask for. Going forward, I will be voting with my wallet and will be using the port Jefferson ferry from now on; same ticket price, same travel time, bigger ships/more comfortable ships, and more professional staff. Unfortunate because I have been using the cross sound ferry for 17+ years. After looking at the other reviews it’s seems my experience is not uncommon. I assume there was a recent change in training or upper management where employees now think it’s acceptable to treat their paying customers as if they are trash.
Ferry staff is always helpful. Very coordinated with boarding and debarking to keep the boats running on time. Interior and deck of boats are always clean and well maintained.

I'm never happier than when I'm leaving NY.
Just fun to be on the water with our 35' rv safely loaded.
Always helpfully staff I take the ferries often I never had a problem
Great time and tour!
Been taking this ferry for 25 years. They are efficient and quick. They are also very helpful if you need to change something even last minute.
