This place was terrible. They charged me $27 for sandwich, fries and a drink. All of which was not good at all. Plus how dirty this place is!!!!!

Great food and great place to sit and eat great grinders and shells with famous meatballs and sausages. I now live in Pennsylvania and still make the road trip to Steve’s Place in Newington, CT.

Been a long-time customer. We usually order delivery but stopped in for the first time since moving nearby. The man who took our order was extremely rude and made us feel very uncomfortable. Will not be back.

I wanted to love this place. The reviews gave me high hopes. The fact it's been open so long made me think it was going to be great.

I've never been so disappointed. The pastrami sandwich was meh. The double cheeseburgers the boys got were two greasy patties that were so thick my boys couldn't eat them, and the buns were approaching stale.

Also, see the photo of the massive piece of fat/gristle that was in my son's patty.

And for three entrees, three cans of coke and an order of onion rings, it was $58. That's wild for a place that doesn't even have ranch for the rings...

The staff was super nice, and I have no complaints there, but the rave reviews are definitely from people who have a nostalgic connection here, not people that actually enjoy good food.

Sorry Steve's...I wanted to love you, but it's not meant to be.

First time in Newington and my first time at Steve’s Place! I stopped in for a quick lunch during an unexpected break in my day, looking for a classic Connecticut sandwich shop—and this place did not disappoint.
The staff gave me a few recommendations, and I went with the chicken cutlet grinder. It was absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and exactly what I was craving.
What really stood out, though, was the service. I’m not sure of his name, but I’m guessing the owner or manager came out from behind the counter, sat with me, and chatted for a few minutes. As a first-time customer, I’ve never felt more welcomed.

Thanks for the great experience, Steve’s Place—I’ll definitely be back, next time I’m in Newington!!

Always been a fan but rarely in the area. I was disappointed with my genoa grinder. It was all bread... A thin layer of salami, paper thin tomatoes and some lettuce. I always remembered the sandwiches being far more substantial. I don't mind paying $12 for a half grinder, but it's gotta have stuff in it.

Steve’s is the ultimate New England deli place and I don’t hesitate to bring colleagues or clients there. Menu covers all the bases from daily specials (lobster rolls, southwest chicken cutlets, shells and sauce) to old stand-by favorites (liverwurst, ham and cheese, etc.) and salads any way you want them. Become a regular, and Doug and his team will learn your name, preferences and food allergies! BEST damn chocolate chip cookies commercially available. Hosmer Mountain sodas in the reach-in cooler (help yourself!).
Don’t sleep on this gem.

Steve’s place never fails to amaze me. Doug and his team, which I met all of today, cousin Johnn, Susie, Michaela, and Mike. Gave me nothing but love. My fellow customers are special and loyal. I met a high caliber customer today who was part of the Newington high class of 1974 along with a colleague of the class of 74. They’ve been coming to Steve’s place for over 50 years. It’s like memory lane. The walls are full of Newington sports and memorabilia which creates an atmosphere of hometown. Oh, and the food the best. Come to Steve’s Place! come on Connell!
