2024's pizza place of my youth, revisited - tables with benches, old photos on the walls, the guy behind the counter who knows you by sight, and a really good slice of pie. (We didn't have a Vic's next door when I was a kid; that's a bonus.)My husband's a huge fan of their meat lovers. As a vegetarian I prefer a mashed potatoes and pesto, no bacon. Nice size small, too; I've got leftovers from the small I ordered last night. As always, we were both glad we went to Mangia, our favorite pizza place from the moment they opened their doors.I told my husband when we got home that, much as I enjoyed our last date night, which was a restaurant fancier than our usual, there's just something special about getting a New Haven pizza with a glass of PBR.
Mangia has such good pizza and a great price and no long wait like at the "big three" New Haven Apizza places. Steve has been making pizzas his whole life I think (at least 40 years) and he nails it time and again. The sauce is just delicious and the crust is a perfect blend of crispy and a bit chewy. Sorry the photo isn't perfect (or maybe it is ?) but we just couldn't wait to dig in and ate the first piece off the hood of the car. ?. I only wish I lived closer.

Good friends with the co-owner Steve Galluzzi. Great
I chose this place because it was midway on a 90 min drive. Ordered a gluten free pizza and asked if they could do buffalo style with chicken, hot sauce and blue cheese. They said yes. I paid for the pizza and was rolling down the road on a highway, no easy way to go back. Opened the pie and found they used breaded chicken. I called and they said it was the only kind of chicken they have. I asked why they didn't tell me when I ordered a GF pizza. They ended up giving me a credit. And hopefully they are a bit more gluten-aware now.

My son and I were looking for a good pizza between New Haven and Wallingford. Too early in the afternoon for Sally's or Pepe's. Mangia came up in Google Maps. Easy to miss this place. Un assuming store front next to a cafe. Parking was sparse (maybe college football games on at the cafe?) Dony judge the book by its cover!Eat in customers order at the counter and then grab a booth. Self serve drinks from the small refrigerators up front. Foxon Park clear birch beer was a bonus. Steady stream of locals coming in for pick ups while we waited. The owner seemed to know all of them (a good sign). Thin crunchy crust pizza ! Sauce was very good. Standard American pepperoni (not salami piccanti) I'll eat here again to try some of the other pies.

Excellent service! Not much to say about its location. Ordered three pies over the phone. No online service. They were done in around 30 minutes. The first was the Deniro special. This white garlicky pizza is delicious. A Mozzarella, spinach, roasted red peppers, ricotta. The second was the Meat Lovers. This one I did not enjoy as much. The rest if the family did, me not so much. The third was a cheese pie. I really liked it. Great taste, sauce to cheese balance was very good. This is a place to visit and grab a pie away from the busier Downtown New Haven.
