Best sushi I’ve had in Connecticut. The food is an art form. Met the owner and he’s a nice guy too!

Bar Bushido is hands down one of our favorite places to eat in Norwalk. The service is always excellent (shout out Kevin and Mikey), the drinks are incredible (thank you Kylie!!), and the unique experience of two restaurants in one is like no other. Kudos to the Bar Bushido team for creating the most unique restaurant experience in Norwalk

Bushido is one of our favorite sushi spots — the hand roll bar is exceptional, rivaling top NYC omakase experiences. Since we couldn’t get in there this time, we tried the front dining area. The sashimi platter ($47) —the server said it is four types of fish with three slices each — it was fresh and beautifully presented but quite sparse: a few thin pieces of fish, a touch of uni and fish eggs, and one large shrimp served with a large portion of rice. The scallop “make-your-own” hand roll ($26) was tasty but again, mostly rice with very little scallop. Still five stars for quality and freshness — we just hope the front dining menu matches the balance and generosity of the hand roll bar.

For a wedding anniversary we visited this restaurant based on spectacular food at the owners other restaurant Tap Root which we’d enjoyed. Atmosphere and service was similarly terrific, the food itself was strangely subpar. Edamame that didn’t go beyond stop and shop quality. Pickled vegetables (tap root had exceptional totally addictive pickled carrots ) which were lifeless and sad, barely any flavor beyond what seemed like simply old. The chicken was nice but to then have a mandated 20% tip for a very average experience solidified us never wanting to return. Quite disappointing.

Bushido is neither the best example nor the most authentic representation of Japanese cuisine you will find in Connecticut. The relationship between value, quality, and price is disproportionate; three of us paid $350 for a meal that was quite ordinary. Authenticity is lacking at this restaurant, which attempts to imitate a fascinating and sophisticated cuisine through non-Japanese staff and ownership, resulting in a loss of genuine character. Additionally, we were disappointed by the owner's overbearing and unprofessional attitude toward employees, which we unfortunately witnessed firsthand. We do not recommend this establishment.

Everything about this place is frenetic, from the haphazard decor, to the chaotic music, to the confusing food menu. The make-your-own-hand-roll is the best thing on offer, once you get the concept. Other dishes come in tiny, overly salted portions. Prices add up very fast. Interesting to try once, will not be back.

Such a fun vibe! Everything made me smile from the minute I walked in - from the insanely good food to the thoughtfully named (and delicious) cocktails, hilarious staff (hi Nayra 🙂!). Sit at the hand roll bar in the back room for the best experience. Bar Bushido is my new favorite spot for a fun night out. Highly recommend the mushroom roll, koji cured tuna, sashimi platter and tequila cocktail with sake.

We ordered about 7 dishes. Even the things I didn’t think I would like were delicious! We can’t wait to go back. AMAZING, just so good!

Barb Zito is an absolute treasure in Norwalk. They’ve created such a unique experience with two different types of dining in one location, the front is a little bit more of a casual Japanese eatery and the back is this very curated unique space that serves the most unique and amazing hand rolls I’ve ever had. Almost to the point where I don’t wanna share this review because I want to keep it a secret to myself so I can always get a table, but this place you’ve got to try.
Our host, Chris, and our chef Jeff were phenomenal 10 stars

Moved to Connecticut early 2024 and the temaki-ya at Bar Bushido was the best meal I’ve had out yet. Best edamame I’ve ever had, the had rolls were creative and fun, and the yuzu dessert was excellent. Definitely going back for the izakaya too.

The food was very good, but the setup is confusing — they operate two separate restaurants out of one kitchen, and they were unwilling to let my kids order from the other menu. Many dishes couldn’t be modified, and overall the place felt pretty inflexible. That said, service was excellent and the drinks were good. However, almost $300 for two adults and three kids who left still hungry isn’t a great sign, especially with a 20% service charge automatically added to the bill. Plenty of Gluten Free and Vegan options.

After dining at legendary establishments like Nobu, Sushi Nakazawa, Sushi 456, KazuNori, and countless other acclaimed sushi destinations, I thought I knew what exceptional sushi looked like. Bar Bushido just completely shattered those expectations and delivered what might genuinely be the most savory and delicate sushi experience I’ve had. Definitely make a resy for the temaki-ya
These hand rolls aka temaki-ya – WOW. The savory selections absolutely blew my mind. What is in that mushroom hand roll?!? Every single bite was a masterclass in balance, technique, and flavor harmony that left me speechless. But here’s what sets Bar Bushido apart: their incredible range spans both the umami-rich savory rolls AND the more delicate, traditional preparations. The contrast between their bold, flavor-forward creations and their pristine, subtle offerings showcases a level of culinary mastery that’s frankly intimidating.
The A5 Wagyu hand roll ($22) alone is worth the pilgrimage – it’s not just food, it’s edible poetry. And don’t even get me started on that Toro Uni with Kaluga caviar ($23) – pure decadence that somehow manages to be both indulgent and refined.
If you consider yourself a sushi enthusiast, Bar Bushido isn’t optional – it’s essential.

We stumbled upon Bushido a few times and were intrigued by its location in a vibrant, up-and-coming area. One sleepless night, around 3 AM, we spotted an Instagram influencer, which piqued our curiosity even more. I decided to surprise Lori, a true connoisseur of fine cuisine who often frequents Nobu. From the moment we stepped inside, we were absolutely blown away!
The attention to detail, the incredible flavors, and the quality of the dishes were nothing short of exceptional, and the staff provided a five-star experience. The front of the restaurant has an ambiance reminiscent of a Tokyo bar, while the hand roll sushi is cleverly tucked away in the back, giving it a speakeasy vibe.
It was hands down the best sushi we've ever had, and honestly, there's no need to travel to NYC when we have this gem right here in Norwalk!
