Food and experience were fantastic; the thing that felt off about the atsmosphere was seeing AI art on some of the walls, in and outside of the bathrooms, and on a promotional sign at the front of the resturant- outside of this, it was perfect

I've been excited to try Bar Bushido and have been looking forward to more sushi spots opening up in the area. The theming is a lot of fun, with unique art pieces and arcade games in the dining room. I got the Tekkadon which included various cuts of tuna, including different cuts of toro which I loved! My friend got the chicken sandwich which she also loved.

Bar Bushido is one of those places that earns your loyalty quietly. The drinks are thoughtfully built, not just poured. You can taste the intent behind them. The atmosphere does something specific. It pulls you into the feeling of Omoide Yokocho tucked into the backstreets of Shinjuku; intimate, a little moody, the kind of place that makes the outside world feel far away the moment you walk in. The food matches that same energy, whether you're leaning into the izakaya-style bites or something more substantial (go through the door at the back of the restaurant!). The staff actually seem to enjoy being there, which changes the whole energy of a room. I've been back more than once, and it holds up every time. If you're in Norwalk and want a bar that takes the craft seriously without taking itself too seriously, this is it.

The back area has a more luxurious menu, so delicious and I love it. You do need reservations for the back area.

We absolutely love Bar Bushido. This place isn’t just dinner — it’s a full experience.

The cocktail program is one of the best in the area. Creative but never gimmicky, balanced, and clearly inspired by Japanese ingredients and technique. You can tell there’s real thought behind every drink.

The food is exceptional. The chef-owner’s love of Japanese cuisine shows in every detail. The yakitori program is outstanding and deeply traditional — using all parts of the chicken the way it’s done in Japan. It’s authentic, intentional, and executed beautifully.

The bar bites are fantastic. The fried chicken sando is a must-order — crispy, juicy, and perfectly balanced. And the ramen? Truly next level. Deep, layered broth, great noodles, and toppings that all make sense. It’s easily one of the best bowls around.

Perhaps the best-kept secret in Norwalk is the back room — the elegant Temaki-Ya. Tucked behind an unmarked entrance, this intimate hand-roll bar feels like discovering a hidden Japanese speakeasy. The atmosphere is quiet and refined — perfect for a date night or special evening. The temaki are beautifully composed, with thoughtful ingredient combinations that balance texture, flavor, and presentation.

The dual concept — lively izakaya in the front, refined hand-roll experience in the back — makes this one of the most unique dining spots in the area.

Norwalk is lucky to have it.

One of the best ramen bowls I’ve had in Connecticut — and I’ve been on the hunt ever since traveling to Japan and trying the real thing. It’s seriously impressive. The broth was rich, deeply flavorful, and perfectly balanced, and the noodles had great texture. You can tell there’s real attention to detail coming from the kitchen.
That said, the menu experience was a bit frustrating. The digital menu is confusing to navigate, and the search bar doesn’t actually pull up items, which made it harder than it needed to be. We were hoping for a little guidance from our server but didn’t get much help with recommendations.
After some aggressive Googling at the table to figure out what to order, we ended up going with the classics — skewers, takoyaki, ramen, and some sake — and everything we chose was delicious. Once the food arrived, it absolutely delivered.
Overall: amazing food, but the ordering experience could use improvement. I’d definitely come back for the ramen alone.

If there’s one place in Norwalk that consistently gets it right, it’s Bar Bushido.

From the moment you walk in, there’s this immediate sense that you belong there. The staff doesn’t just recognize faces—they genuinely welcome you, and that warmth sets the tone for the entire experience. It’s relaxed without being casual, polished without ever feeling pretentious.

The Japanese small plates are a real standout. Perfectly portioned, thoughtfully prepared, and ideal for sharing—or not. Each dish feels intentional, with clean flavors and just the right amount of creativity, making them the perfect companion to an already excellent cocktail menu.

Speaking of drinks, they’re consistently on point: balanced, inventive, and never overworked.

Whether you’re easing into the evening with one drink or settling in for a few rounds, everything feels curated but comfortable.

What really makes Bar Bushido special, though, is the atmosphere. It’s one of those rare spots where you can go alone and feel completely at ease, or go with friends and lose track of time.

Every visit feels familiar in the best possible way.
Some places are good. Some places are memorable.

Bar Bushido is the kind of place you keep coming back to—because it feels like home.

Bar Bushido is hands down one of our favorite places to eat in Norwalk. The service is always excellent (shout out Kevin and Mikey), the drinks are incredible (thank you Kylie!!), and the unique experience of two restaurants in one is like no other. Kudos to the Bar Bushido team for creating the most unique restaurant experience in Norwalk

Bushido is one of our favorite sushi spots — the hand roll bar is exceptional, rivaling top NYC omakase experiences. Since we couldn’t get in there this time, we tried the front dining area. The sashimi platter ($47) —the server said it is four types of fish with three slices each — it was fresh and beautifully presented but quite sparse: a few thin pieces of fish, a touch of uni and fish eggs, and one large shrimp served with a large portion of rice. The scallop “make-your-own” hand roll ($26) was tasty but again, mostly rice with very little scallop. Still five stars for quality and freshness — we just hope the front dining menu matches the balance and generosity of the hand roll bar.

For a wedding anniversary we visited this restaurant based on spectacular food at the owners other restaurant Tap Root which we’d enjoyed. Atmosphere and service was similarly terrific, the food itself was strangely subpar. Edamame that didn’t go beyond stop and shop quality. Pickled vegetables (tap root had exceptional totally addictive pickled carrots ) which were lifeless and sad, barely any flavor beyond what seemed like simply old. The chicken was nice but to then have a mandated 20% tip for a very average experience solidified us never wanting to return. Quite disappointing.
