pleasant experience. I think I enjoyed the food. I was a little drunk, but the overall experience was very good. I would highly recommend this place on a lovely night out in Westport.

The place is gorgeous. The cocktails are delicious and creative. The pizza is tops. The chef Renato is imaginative and skilled. Ella is an attentive and friendly server. Absolutely love it.

I ordered takeout for a Margherita and Paella, but when I got home I was surprised by how salty both dishes were, especially the paella. I called and explained the issue, and the manager offered to remake it if I brought the food back, even asking for the discarded shells.
It took me about 30 minutes to drive back, and I assumed the food would be ready when I arrived. Instead, the server told me I had to wait another 15 minutes. After waiting 25 more minutes, I asked what was happening. The manager then explained that the order was only placed after I arrived, because they needed to taste the paella first. This made me wonder—did they actually remake it with the paella I brought back?
After more than 30 minutes of waiting in the cold, the replacement dish was still unsatisfying (and when checked at home- noticeably smaller, even though only a few spoonfuls had been eaten before I returned it). The manager asked if I wanted a refund, but at that point I felt it was pointless. I had already wasted the time and effort to drive back and wait.
If you truly want to keep customers, you remake the food right away when they call, and handle any internal tasting later. This experience left me so frustrated, and certain I won’t be returning.

I hosted a party for 30 people and it was perfect. The food was fabulous, especially the hanger steak and paella mixto, the service was attentive, but not intrusive, the atmosphere is hip and sophisticated. The weather was great and we were able to spill out onto the patio. The GM, Ela, was easy to work with, helpful, and thorough throughout the planning stage and made sure everything went according to plan the night of the event. All in all the the food, the service and the ambience were excellent. I’m so happy I chose Basso for my party and I look forward to going back.

This place is a hidden gem. We have been here so many times for happy hour and dinner. The food never disappoints. There is literally no bad choice on the menu. Paella and Parrillada are especially good. Pizzas are also good.
Chef Renato runs a great restaurant and we love chatting with Carlos at the bar.

What a fun place. Our first time here.. Late night bite to eat with a group of friends. Staff was great. Food was delicious. Menu is plentiful. Open walls to outside set three atmosphere for a late summer evening. Looking forward to coming back.

Came here for a late lunch. It was a bit tricky to find as Google Maps told me to park at least a full five plus minute walk..but there wasn'tany parking where maps was telling me to park.... so we got there super late for our reservation. 🫣🫢 But once we did find it, we were glad that we did.
We tried theses tapas: papas brava 🥔, spinach & chickpea, eggplant 🍆 [something], and another non-vegan entrée which the last two items looked good... (but I didn't personally try them but it looked delish! My friend LOVED them!)
I DID try the vegan paella 🥘 & it was very tasty..I was so pleasantly surprised that they actually had it! Yumm!!! 😋

I would love to give this a five star, but the food was average. The weight staff was excellent and I would even say beyond excellent. The atmosphere was great a lot of fun terrific vibe. However the food was just average. It’s not bad and I would definitely come back. Maybe it was the items we ordered. We started off with the meatballs, which were tasty, but the inside was cold. The grilled calamari just did not have a lot of taste. The arugula pizza came with spinach instead of arugula, but it was good. The Scarpariello was average at best. The Tuscan grilled chicken was good and definitely took majority of the time to come out. Like I said it’s a great spot to go to for drinks. I will definitely come back and update my review when I have some more items.

Such a great find! Their menu is the perfect mix of Italian tradition and Latin flavor. Chef Renato Donzelli brings his Venezuelan roots and Italian upbringing together in a menu that seriously impresses! Everything I had was amazing, especially the octopus salad in a bread bowl (so fresh and delicious). Do yourself a favor and be sure order the paella as well. Their espresso martinis were some of the best I’ve had, and the desserts (cannoli cake and churros) were the perfect finish. On top of it all, the romantic vibe makes this such a great spot for date night.

Update 2025-08
The Choripan was amazing. I love this place. It's now our favorite restaurant in Westport and we've been to every one of them multiple times. If you don't try this place you are missing out.

Basso was lovely and the wait staff were wonderful. I wasn't overly impressed with the food (I tried the Pecorino fries, the meatball pizza, the beef empanada, and the potatoes brava) but everyone else in my group thought it was delicious, so it might have just been an issue for me. I highly encourage you to go try it for yourself and see what you think!

We had a deeply upsetting and discriminatory experience at Basso Restaurant & Wine Bar. My wife, who has PTSD and a fully trained service dog, was denied entry, a direct violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Despite informing the staff that it is illegal to ask for documentation, they insisted on seeing papers and refused to let us in. They never asked the two questions permitted by law:
1. “Is this a service dog required because of a disability?”
2. “What task has the dog been trained to perform?”
Instead, they unlawfully demanded documentation and turned us away. This behavior is not only illegal, it’s discriminatory and harmful.
We have the entire incident on video and will file a formal complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice under the ADA.
No one with a disability should be treated this way. I strongly urge the restaurant to educate its staff and come into full legal compliance immediately.
